Initially making its preview nearly a year ago at the 2022 Manila International Auto Show, the 2023 GAC Empow has finally reached the Philippines. This time, as we mentioned a few months back, GAC Motor is now under Astara, the same Spanish distributor handling Peugeot in the Philippines.
GAC’s first sports sedan rides on their newest Global Platform Modular Architecture (GPMA). The Empow is indeed unlike any other GAC before it. Rather than going for an elegant look, the Empow looks properly sporty, with its black Mecha grille with vertical air intakes, sharp LED headlights, and sporty front bumper. 18-inch wheels and inverted L-shaped LED taillights complete the look of this sports sedan.
Inside, the 2023 GAC Empow comes with a dual-screen layout that includes a 7-inch digital gauge cluster and a 10.25-inch main infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay only. The interior itself is made out of premium soft-touch materials, along with power adjustment for the driver’s seat, a sunroof, and dual-zone climate control. There’s also a floating center console design where the electronic gear shifter and electronic parking brake are mounted.
Under the hood of the Empow is a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 168 hp and 270 Nm of torque. This is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that drives the front wheels. While it may be down slightly on power compared to the Honda Civic, GAC Motor says it does the 0-100 kph sprint in just 6.95 seconds–faster than the Civic and also the fastest in its segment.
Impressively, the 2023 GAC Empow even comes with a full suite of advanced driver-assistance tech, ranging from full-speed adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high beams, just to name a few.
The 2023 GAC Empow is now on sale across all of the brand’s dealers at the following introductory prices:
- GS: P1,135,000
- GB: P1,215,000
- GE: P1,283,000
Since these are introductory, they are only valid until March 31, 2023. The introductory prices incorporate a discount of P90,000 for the GS and GB variants and P65,000 for the GE.
