MG Philippines has officially launched the 2023 MG GT in the Philippines. The compact sedan that rivals the Honda Civic is now officially in dealers, and here’s what you need to know about the Sino-British automaker’s latest offering.
There are two variants available for the 2023 MG GT: Alpha and Sport. Whichever variant you choose, you get a stylish exterior with sleek lines and a bold front end that’s characterized by its wide “Digital Flaming Grille” that contains the largest MG emblem ever fitted to a car. LED headlights and taillights come as standard across all variants, while the Sport variant benefits from 17-inch wheels as opposed to the Alpha’s 16 inches.
Moving inside, the 2023 MG GT comes with a modern design that’s said to be inspired by modern fighter jets. Whatever the case, the interior looks sleek and modern, and MG says that its silver trims are actually aircraft-grade aluminum. As for features, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and a large 10-inch touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come as standard. Leather upholstery and a sunroof are also part of the equipment list while splurging for the Sport adds a power-adjustable driver’s seat, auto-folding mirrors, rear aircon vents, and automatic climate control.
Two powertrain options are available for the MG GT, both of which are 1.5-liter four-cylinder engines. The base engine that’s in the Alpha is a non-turbo motor that produces 113 hp and 150 Nm of torque while the Sport gets a turbocharged one. With the latter, it produces 161 hp and 250 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a CVT for the Alpha while the Sport gets a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.
Advanced safety has been a focus for MG Philippines as of late, with the new 2023 MG GT Sport benefitting from automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, automatic high beams, and a 360-degree camera. This comes on top of the usual electronic stability control, reverse camera, and a suite of airbags.
While the 2023 MG GT may be a compact sedan, its price tag is actually more in line with subcompact offerings. The MG GT Alpha starts at P1,015,888 while the Sport retails for P1,193,888.
