The current generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class has been in the market since 2016, which means that a complete redesign is in order to keep the nameplate updated. Indeed, that is what Mercedes-Benz is about to do as they’ve recently revealed the interior of the next-generation 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
Following the footsteps of the Hyperscreen of the EQS full-size luxury electric sedan, the next-generation E-Class will come with what Mercedes calls “Superscreen”. The German automaker didn’t reveal how large the screens are, but Superscreen differs from Hyperscreen with its separate freestanding display for the digital gauges. Superscreen won’t be offered as standard, though. Instead, it will be an optional extra that customers have to pay for.
Superscreen will be focused on delivering a software-driven experience, as Mercedes says this will enable them to add more features to the vehicle during its life cycle. Third-party apps can also be directly installed through the MBUX operating system via the upcoming App Store. At launch, the App Store will feature an assortment of popular apps that have been optimized for the E-Class, such as Angry Birds, Zoom, and even TikTok. Yes, we’ve come to a point that a car now comes with built-in TikTok.
With the built-in TikTok and other social media apps, owners of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class can take photos and videos when the car is parked. There’s also a Vivaldi web browser and a host of “more than 30 streaming services from well-known global, regional, and local partners are already available, while further partners and channels are continually being integrated.”
Having a screen for the front passenger can be distracting for the driver, which is why Mercedes-Benz went through the pain of a “visual shield”, which uses a tracking camera and an “advanced filtering concept” that blocks the view of the second screen from the driver’s seat.
Lastly, the MBUX operating system used in this Superscreen will take advantage of artificial intelligence. At launch, there will be programmed templates that will allow the car to use certain features automatically such as the heated seats during a cold winter morning. As you own the vehicle longer, the system learns the driver’s daily routinary inputs and therefore MBUX will be able to anticipate the driver’s wants or needs during certain times of the day.
Outside the Superscreen, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class will also come with optional Active Ambient Lighting as well as a 17-speaker Burmester 4D surround sound system. The former isn’t just decorative lighting because it can also relay notifications as well as provide visual cues for the car’s safety systems such as the blind spot warning. On the other hand, the latter has sound exciters built into the seats, which lets you “feel” the sound rather than just hear or see it through the visualizations from the ambient lighting.
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class will be revealed in just a few months. In fact, the German automaker will start shipping these vehicles to European dealers as soon as summer 2023.
