The next-generation 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC has just arrived in the Philippines, and it’s a very important vehicle for the German luxury automaker. Ever since it replaced the GLK in 2016, the GLC eventually became the brand’s best-selling vehicle, and that’s likewise the case for the Philippine market as well as more than 1,000 units have already been sold.
From a styling standpoint, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC draws a lot of inspiration from its EQ range of electric vehicles, though its overall shape is easily identifiable as a GLC. The redesign is evolutionary, but it looks more dynamic than the previous model thanks to its more prominent grille that’s connected with the LED headlights. The model on sale in the Philippines is the Avantgarde version, which comes with a chrome grille and exterior detailing, 19-inch 10-spoke wheels, among other features.
The side profile and rear look similar to the previous generation GLC, but with a bit of sculpting to make it look more dynamic. Topping it all off is a pair of LED taillights that are integrated into its tailgate garnish, giving it the impression that the taillights are a single piece.
Moving inside, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC adopts a similar styling theme to the C-Class. After all, the GLC rides on the same platform as the aforementioned compact luxury sedan. The design is vastly different from the previous model, echoing the floating center stack that houses an 11.9-inch MBUX touchscreen infotainment system. This works in conjunction with the 12.3-inch fully-digital gauge cluster and a very comprehensive head-up display.
Some of its interior amenities include ARTICO synthetic leather upholstery, Burmester 3D Surround Sound System with 15 speakers and a sound system output of 710 watts, along with power-adjustable front seats, and 64-color ambient lighting, just to name a few.
The GLC that is offered in the Philippines is the GLC 200, which means it gets a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a 48-v0lt mild-hybrid system. This provides a total output of 204 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque. This is sent through a 4Matic rear-biased all-wheel drive (AWD) system via a nine-speed automatic transmission.
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLC also comes with a decent amount of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) which includes Active Brake Assist, Brake Assist System, Active Lane Keeping Assist, and an Active Park Assist automated parking system. This is on top of the usual suite of airbags along with a reverse camera.
