Is The Nissan Hyper Force The 1,341 HP Electric GT-R We’ve Been Waiting For?

The Nissan Hyper Force is an electric preview of what the brand's supercar future could look like, but is this the path the GT-R will take?

Once again, the Japan Mobility Show has become witness to another electric concept car launch. This time, it’s in the form of the Nissan Hyper Force concept, an electric supercar with the GT-R‘s genes and sporting intentions.

Nissan Hyper Force

At its core is a high-output all-electric powertrain with an optimal-weight-balancing, all-solid-state battery that can produce output up to 1,341 horsepower with precise and rapid acceleration. Powerful downforce, an advanced form of Nissan’s e-4ORCE all-wheel control technology, and a lightweight body featuring high-strength carbon fiber promise enhanced cornering and exceptional handling on circuits and winding roads.

The exterior design of the Nissan Hyper Force, however, is controversial bit. The design supposedly pays homage to Nissan’s rich heritage of high-performance cars, with its wide and planted proportions. The front bumper extends past the hood line with its canards which does help in aerodynamics, but it also somehow makes the front end proportions look awkward. The rest of the body is filled with hard edges and geometric shapes, while the rear end features the signature quad-LED rounded taillights that pay homage to the GT-R.

Inside, the Nissan Hyper Force is likewise very radical and geometric in terms of design. There’s a plethora of LEDs that enhance the interior ambiance depending on the two drive modes: “R” (racing) and “GT” (grand touring). The graphical user interface changes color and display according to the mode and is designed to instantly display the most needed information for the driver in line with the driving circumstances. These graphics are the result of collaboration with Polyphony Digital Inc.

Safety plays a crucial role in this concept car’s formula. Nissan says that this car is equipped with LiDAR and an array of sensors tuned for sporty driving. In addition, the Nissan Hyper Force blurs the line between reality and virtual with its innovative augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) experiences that enable driving in both the real and the virtual world seamlessly. When the vehicle is stopped, the driver can use a special helmet with blind visors for VR that enables entering a gamified driving experience, complete with modes that enable racing against the clock or online racers. By using skeleton visors for AR, the driver can compete against their own, friends’, or even professional drivers’ digital ghosts on a circuit, allowing users to safely push their driving skills on real-world tracks.

All of this sounds like science fiction, and it does. After all, its a concept that’s mainly for motor show use. While Nissan did not explicitly say that it previews an upcoming GT-R, the company also did not deny that this is the intent of this concept. As mentioned those quad-LED rounded taillights are a homage to the GT-R, and we’re pretty sure Nissan won’t just do that for homage purposes if the model that will have it won’t be badged as a GT-R.
