While some admire its boldness and freshness, others find it a bit too daring for their taste. (I personally love it, there are just too many bland colors today!)

Chevrolet did not just do a simple facelift but made a complete redesign that aligns with the current trends in automotive design.

The use of higher-quality materials throughout the cabin enhances the sense of sophistication. I love how Chevy has integrated some little things inside it that just make it different. Although, one of the things that I really, really, really, really, didn’t like about its interior, is it just has TOO many piano black plastics in it! 

This design overhaul extends to practical aspects as well. The cabin space is efficiently utilized, offering more room and comfort for both the driver and passengers. It’s evident that Chevrolet has invested considerably in ensuring that the new Trax isn’t just about looks but also about providing a comfortable and enjoyable ride.

Features

The vehicle is equipped with an 8-way electrically adjustable driver seat, providing excellent lumbar support, and the rear seats feature a 60:40 split for added flexibility. The Trax also comes with a range of safety features, including multiple airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake distribution (EBD), vehicle stability control, and a lane departure warning system, ensuring a safe driving experience.

However, one significant drawback I’ve experienced with the Trax is the absence of Apple CarPlay. This missing feature proved to be particularly challenging during my drive on the Batangas loop, where navigating without the convenience of Apple CarPlay proved to be quite difficult. The lack of this feature is a notable oversight, especially considering the increasing reliance on smartphone integrations for navigation and entertainment in modern vehicles. The absence of Apple CarPlay might be a deal-breaker for some, particularly for those who rely heavily on smartphone integration for their in-car experience​

Driving

The vehicle stands out for its comfort and stability, especially at high speeds, which I personally experienced on SLEX and STAR Tollway. The Trax offers a spacious cabin and comfortable seating, contributing to a pleasant driving experience both in city conditions and on longer journeys. The ride is stable and quiet, effectively absorbing bumps and maintaining composure on different road surfaces. This level of comfort is particularly notable in Metro Manila’s streets, whether the vehicle is fully loaded or not.

However, while the Trax feels quick and responsive, it doesn’t quite deliver the same level of power as some of its competitors, particularly during scenarios that require rapid acceleration or overtaking. The steering, though a bit numb, still provides adequate feedback, and the vehicle remains composed when navigating corners. That said, the braking power could benefit from some improvement for those looking for a more active driving experience.

The lack of selectable driving modes in the Trax is a feature that I found missing. Such a feature would have added a layer of customization to the driving experience, allowing for adjustments to match varying driving conditions and personal preferences. In its price point, you would’ve expected the Trax to have driving modes.

Verdict

After a comprehensive look at the 2024 Chevrolet Trax, the vehicle presents a mix of positive aspects and shortcomings. The Trax has been praised for its handling and ride comfort, soaking up bumps well and remaining composed on various road surfaces, including the challenging streets of Metro Manila. The steering, although a bit numb, provides enough feedback, and the vehicle shows composure when maneuvering around corners. These features contribute to a generally good driving experience.

However, the price point of the Trax–specifically this RS variant at around P1,948,888, is a significant consideration. This cost has been a major factor in evaluations, with some finding it quite high for what the vehicle offers. While the Trax has its appealing aspects, such as its unique design and comfortable ride, it does not necessarily stand out in terms of groundbreaking features or power compared to its competitors.

From my personal perspective, I found myself disappointed with the Trax, especially considering its price. While it’s a great car with commendable aspects like comfort and stability, the value proposition it offers at its current price point is not particularly strong. I would be more inclined to consider purchasing the Trax if it were available at a significantly lower price, offering a better balance between cost and features.

In conclusion, the 2024 Chevrolet Trax is a vehicle with character and a comfortable driving experience, but its high price makes it a less attractive option compared to other vehicles in the same segment, especially when considering the overall package it offers.
