Fully-Electric 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQS Now In PH From P9.990M

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQS has finally arrived in the Philippines, representing the pinnacle of the Mercedes-Benz EQ range of electric luxury cars. The EQS, as the”S” suggests, is the S-Class of the EQ range, and thus, you can pretty much expect everything but the kitchen sink thrown into this electric luxury sedan.

Riding on a dedicated electric vehicle (EV) platform as opposed to simply using the platform of a vehicle with an internal combustion engine (ICE), the EQS has its unique design compared to the S-Class. Therefore, doesn’t need to be as long, enabling designers to give the EQS a cab-forward design. Offered in the Philippines is the EQS 450 4Matc with the AMG Line exterior, which means it gets a sportier exterior treatment compared to the standard model. That curvaceous shape, by the way, has resulted in a large sedan with a drag coefficient of just 0.20 Cd, which is one of the lowest for any production car.

As the pinnacle of the EQ range, you can expect the latest and greatest in advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), such as radar cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking, just to name a few. Mercedes-Benz says they don’t simply put the ‘S’ moniker in their vehicles unless it truly deserves it, so it’s no surprise that the EQS comes with the finest materials, and there’s no denying that powerful 56-inch MBUX Hyperscreen dominating the dashboard. Apart from MBUX’s intelligent voice assistant, this new infotainment also features artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, which analyze the usual routines of the driver.

The EQS also has numerous interior sensors and facial recognition tech. This enables the EQS to automatically adjust to driver-specific vehicle settings and display suggestions through the MBUX screen. In addition, these sensors allow the EQS to notice gestures such as hands-free closing of doors or even when opening the sunroof. The sensors are also able to detect if the driver is taking a peek at the front passenger’s screen. If it does, it will automatically dim the screen so that the driver won’t be distracted.

Of course, the EQS wouldn’t be the S-Class of EVs if it didn’t have the expected creature comforts of a Mercedes flagship. Those at the front get massaging front seats, among other features, but those at the rear are treated to the same level of opulence you would expect in an S-Class, such as their own two 11.6-inch touch screens, and a console-mounted tablet that can be detached and operated outside the EQS altogether. Additionally, there’s a multi-color LED ambient light as well as a Burmester surround sound system.

As the EQS 450 4Matic name suggests, this electric luxury sedan comes with a two electric motors that drive all four wheels. Together, the motors produce 360 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque, which is enough for a 0-100 kph time of just 5.6 seconds. Thanks to the large 108.44 kWh lithium-ion battery, the EQS 450 4Matic can travel up to 717 kilometers.
