Facelifted 2025 Porsche 911 Revealed With Available 532-HP Hybrid Drivetrain

The 2025 Porsche 911 makes a leap that's nearly as monumental as when the first water-cooled 911 was made.

The 2025 Porsche 911 has finally been revealed in all its glory, and as expected from a mid-cycle facelift, the new 911 (codenamed 992.2 since this is just a facelift of the 992), the aesthetic changes are very minor. But where Porsche, as expected, spent most of their effort on the mechanicals of the 911. Representing a major step from the first water-cooled model, the 911 nameplate finally enters into the electrified era with the first-ever street-legal hybrid model.

Monumental Leap Since The First Water-Cooled 911

Yes, it’s the first hybrid street-legal 911 because Porsche has made a hybrid 911 before, but exclusively for racecar use. Marketed by Porsche as the T-Hybrid, the electrified powertrain in the 911 Carrera GTS combines a newly developed 3.6-liter six-cylinder boxer engine with a new electric turbocharger and a single electric motor mounted right at the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic. The resulting power output from the system is 532 horsepower and 609 Nm of torque, but how it delivers this power is remarkable in its own right.

Firstly, by going the electric turbocharger route, the build-up in boost in the 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six it’s replacing took around three seconds. Here in the 911 Carrera GTS T-Hybrid? That full boost happens in less than a second, practically nearly eliminating turbo lag and making the engine respond as if it were a naturally aspirated engine. Finally, that electric motor can’t power the 911 on its own–which is by design since Porsche’s T-Hybrid system is a performance hybrid with significantly less CO2 emissions and not necessarily for efficiency purposes (though that’s an upside, too).

So you might be wondering now how the battery gets charged. Well, the excess exhaust gas develops as much as 11 kW and that’s what charges the battery. This sounds all complex, but actually, the system is far simpler than if it went the plug-in hybrid route (which Porsche is avoiding at all costs). In addition, the T-Hybrid system only adds 50 kg to the car’s weight. Combined with the boost in power, the new 911 Carrera GTS now does the 0-100 kph sprint in just 2.9 seconds (from 3.2 seconds) while top speed is a mere 1 kph faster at 312 kph.

Anything Else In The 911 Carrera GTS T-Hybrid?

Since this is the GTS model, it serves as the middle ground between the hardcore GT3 models and the base Carrera models. Sports exhaust with two close-set tailpipes, along with rear-axle steering, are fitted as standard to this model. The Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) adaptive dampers are also standard, but the Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) anti-roll stabilization with electro-hydraulic control is an optional extra.

What Else Is New In The 2025 Porsche 911?

At the moment, the 2025 Porsche 911 facelift has only been applied to the Carrera GTS and the base Carrera models. You’ll have to wait till the 2026 model year for the Carrera S, as well as probably the Turbo and the GT3 models. For the base Carrera models, the external upgrades are as minor as they could get, as these are limited to a slightly redesigned front and rear bumper, slightly redesigned LED full-width taillights with the “PORSCHE” script now illuminated, and new alloy wheels.

The Carrera GTS is far easier to identify as it gets a more aggressive front bumper with vertical active aero flaps that open or close depending on the cooling requirements of the hybrid drivetrain, along with a new rear bumper and rear diffuser design. To stand out even more, customers can opt for an Aerokit that adds a Porsche SportDesign front spoiler, side skirts, and a fixed rear wing.

As for the interior of the 2025 Porsche 911, the overall design remains similar to the outgoing model, but there are a few welcome and potentially not-so-welcome changes. For starters, gone is the middle analog tachometer that’s graced the gauges of the 911 for nearly 60 years. In its place is a fully digital 12.6-inch screen that works in tandem with the 10.9-inch Porsche Communication Management infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. What will be nearly universally missed is the switch from a twistable simulated key that’s mounted on the left side of the dash in favor of a starter button. You know, just like any other car with a smart key these days?

The base 911 Carrera also gets incremental upgrades from the powertrain. The 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six has been retuned to produce 388 horsepower (from 379 horsepower) but torque remains the same at 450 Nm. Therefore, the performance improvements are just as incremental, with the 0-100 kph time of just 4.1 seconds (3.9 seconds with the Sport Chrono package), both of which are a tenth faster than before. Its 294 kph top speed is also just 1 kph faster than the pre-facelift model.

No Manual Option (For Now), But Where Are The Rear Seats?

Unfortunately, the current 2025 Porsche 911 model range only comes with the eight-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic. Those who want a manual, or even the Carrera S, Turbo, Turbo S, GT3, GT3 RS, and Targa models will have to wait for the 2026 model year.

Finally, the 911 model range always had rear seats unless you spent on the higher-performing models like the GT3 RS. For this facelift, those rear seats have been ditched, though they are a no-cost option if you found them useful enough to be a torture chamber to those friends you hated the most. Or probably your toddler since they’ll probably fit there just fine.
