Yes, A 35th Anniversary Mazda MX-5 Is Coming Very Soon

The Mazda MX-5 is now in its 35th year, and to celebrate, a special edition model has been confirmed to come out this year.

It’s hard to believe that the current fourth-generation (ND) Mazda MX-5 is about to hit a decade old, and yet time has been so kind to the world’s best-selling two-seat roadster. It was also with the ND when the 30th Anniversary Edition was conceived, and now, it seems that another special edition model will be created.

This was confirmed by Miata Program Manager Shigeki Saito during the 2024 Karuizawa Meeting (at the 48:50 mark), in which a special model to celebrate the MX-5’s 35th anniversary is coming out this year. Details about what will set this special edition MX-5 apart are still scarce, but there’s a bit of good news that’s confirmed.

Unlike the 30th Anniversary Edition MX-5, which was only limited to 3,000 examples worldwide and 30 of those reached the Philippines, the new model isn’t capped to a production number. Instead, it will be produced for a limited time with no limit on how many examples will be produced.

But what can we expect from this special edition model? Well, there are no details that have been revealed yet, but if the 30th Anniversary Edition model is any indication, then we may see things like Recaro seats, unique wheels, and perhaps even a unique paint. The 30th Anniversary model was coated in Racing Orange and was complemented by orange interior accents.

Earlier this year, the facelifted 2024 Mazda MX-5 made its debut in the Philippines, which came with revised exterior and interior looks, new tech features, a new Asymmetrical Limited-Slip Differential (A-LSD), a redesigned steering rack, and a new Dynamic Stability Control with Track Mode (DSC-Track). It still uses the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder Skyactiv-G gasoline engine that produces 181 horsepower and 205 Nm of torque, and as usual, this is mated to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic, with the latter being the only transmission option for the RF.
