Changan Auto Philippines has chosen the 9th Philippine International Motor Show as the venue for the launch of the Changan Hunter RE-EV. We drove this electrified pickup earlier this year in China and were impressed by its smoothness. It offers a pure electric driving experience augmented by a gasoline engine that acts merely as a generator. Now that it’s in the Philippines, do you think Filipinos are ready for an electrified pickup without the range anxiety?
The Changan Hunter RE-EV has two drivetrain configurations. It can either be a single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) that produces 174 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque, or a dual-motor four-wheel drive (4WD) whose total system output is 254 horsepower and 447 Nm of torque.
Strangely enough, whether you go for the RWD or AWD, the Hunter RE-EV’s 31.18 kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack is good enough for a pure electric range of 180 kilometers, or when combined with the 187-horsepower 2.0-liter turbo gasoline engine generator, a range of 1,031 kilometers, both of which are CLTC-quoted test figures. Being a plug-in hybrid range extender, the Hunter RE-EV can also be charged at a to-be-announced maximum charging output. At the moment, the Hunter RE-EV has a Chinese market GB/T charge port, which is being phased out in the Philippines in favor of Type 2 or CCS2.

Now, as for the exterior, the Changan Hunter has different front-end designs depending on the variant. In the case of the RE-EV, this gets a mesh grille that’s flanked by slim L-shaped LED headlights, two-tone 18-inch wheels, and a versatile multifunction tailgate that can act as stairs as well.

Moving inside the Changan Hunter RE-EV, the dash design is also new, featuring a sleeker, more curvaceous layout that’s inspired by its crossover SUVs such as the CS55 Plus. There are leatherette surfaces across the dash and seats, while the twin screens, one being the 7.5-inch gauges and the other being a 12-inch main infotainment screen, adds to the modernity of the interior. You also get an electronic gear shifter and generous storage spaces.
Finally, the Changan Hunter RE-EV has a full suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), such as adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, just to name a few. This is on top of a 360-degree camera, among other safety features.
Changan Auto Philippines is only using the 9th Philippine International Motor Show as a venue to preview the Hunter RE-EV. Positioned as an electrified lifestyle pickup, its target price is below the P2 million mark. Given enough interest, would you get the Changan Hunter RE-EV?
