The 2025 BYD Seal Performance takes aim at traditional gas-powered sports sedans and even the upcoming Tesla Model 3 in the Philippines.

BYD Cars Philippines continues its aggressive push in the country by finally bringing in a sports sedan that proves to the world it can satisfy enthusiasts. The award-winning 2025 BYD Seal sports sedan is now in the Philippines, and with prices starting at P2,548,000 for this sole Performance variant, it’s taking aim at traditional midsize gas-powered executive sedans and sports sedans, but with performance levels unheard of in any of these cars.

That begins with its dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) layout, whose two electric motors driving all four wheels has a combined output of 530 horsepower and 670 Nm of torque. That’s more than twice what most vehicles in this segment produce, like the Hyundai Elantra N and Subaru WRX, and of course, the midsize executive sedan stalwart, the Toyota Camry Hybrid. 0-100 kph happens in just 3.8 seconds (as denoted by the 3.8 S badge at the trunk lid), far faster than all of these vehicles.

And don’t go thinking that this is an electric sports sedan that’s only fast, but won’t be able to go around a corner. With sharp steering, frequency selective dampers (FSD), and what BYD calls iTAC or Intelligent Torque Adaptation Control, the 2025 BYD Seal has the moves to back up its acceleration. iTAC basically performs the duties of a limited-slip differential (LSD) and torque vectoring by controlling how the two electric motors deliver power to each wheel. The result in the corners is that, the BYD Seal has high grip limits with excellent body control, putting it nearly on par with more expensive sporty EVs like the BMW i4.

Yet despite the sporting credentials, the 2025 BYD Seal is extremely refined. The car’s quiet with excellent insulation, yet the 19-inch wheels don’t compromise its ride quality. Furthermore, with its 82.5 kWh signature BYD Blade lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery, the Seal Performance doesn’t compromise on range as its able to travel up to 520 km based on WLTP testing.

Unfortunately, we do have gripes with its charging speed. Maxing out at just 7 kW in AC, a 0-100% charge takes a whopping 16 hours, though, of course, you don’t arrive at home or to your destination with zero percent charge. However, its DC fast charging speeds are just on par with most other EVs. It tops out at 150 kW, which means it can charge from 30 to 80 percent in 30 minutes.

A sports sedan, however, has to look the part, and the 2025 BYD Seal Performance is indeed one of our favorites. The slim LED headlights that sit higher than the hood’s height, along with the clean front end and well-proportioned body result in a sedan that looks sleek, sexy, and downright gorgeous. The side profile is likewise clean with short overhangs, and those 19-inch wheels do a great job in highlighting its dynamic stance. Lastly, the rear end contains full-width LED taillights that are housed in a clear lens, raising style points to this gorgeous electric sports sedan.

Thankfully, that stylishness carries over to the inside. The 2025 BYD Seal’s interior is filled with curves and shapes that are in line with the brand’s “Ocean Series” EVs that consist of the Atto 3, Seagull, and Sealion 6. However, as this is the flagship of the Ocean Series, the interior is well-executed in premium materials, and we’re impressed that they didn’t go overboard with the gloss black stuff. There’s plenty of matte textures, as well as leather and suede materials that all feel great to the touch. Even the door thud has a German car-like solid thunk.

User interface-wise, you’ve got a large digital driver’s display, a windshield-projected head-up display, and also BYD’s 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The software of the touchscreen is well-executed with a snappy response and over-the-air (OTA) updates that legacy automakers can dream of. Unfortunately, we’re still not fans of the lack of physical climate controls, but at least the driving settings have dedicated physical buttons. Finally, there’s an excellently-tuned Dynaudio sound system that we think is even better tuned than some of Mazda’s Bose sound systems.

The result of all this greatness in the 2025 BYD Seal is that, it’s a car that could possibly end up as Go Flat Out PH’s Car of the Year if we get our hands on one for a full review this year. For now, its list of awards include the iF Design Award (thanks, Wolfgang Egger for designing a good-looking car), as well as ending up as a finalist for the 2024 World Car of the Year.
