The Toyota Tamaraw is going to be launched on December 6, but before it hits the market, here's what we know so far about this vehicle.

Toyota Motor Philippines is about to finally launch the new Tamaraw in our market, about six months after it was previewed at Toyota Road Trek. The official launch will be held on December 6, which is this Friday, at the Glorietta Activity Center in Makati City, but before you see the vehicle in the flesh, here are a few things you can expect about the launch and the car itself.

On November 28, TMP officially kicked off the Tamaraw production at its Santa Rosa, Laguna plant. The Tamaraw is the third Toyota that’s part of the brand’s locally-manufactured vehicle model range, once again contributing to the Philippine economy and thus, adding more jobs and improving the livelihood of those in the automotive industry. The Tamaraw isn’t also just a complete knockdown (CKD) kit. Instead, as with the Innova and Vios, the Tamaraw has numerous locally supplied and manufactured parts, and some of those suppliers were even involved in the original Tamaraw.

The new Toyota Tamaraw is also going to start at under P800,000, with full pricing of all variants to be revealed on December 6. This makes the Tamaraw one of the most affordable cab-and-chassis commercial vehicles on sale in the Philippines, and that price advantage is mostly due to the availability of a 2.0-liter gas version. The gas version, which uses a 2.0-liter 1TR-RE four-cylinder engine, produces 139 horsepower and 183 Nm of torque, and it’s fitted to the short wheelbase version. A five-speed manual is your only option for this engine.

The more capable long wheelbase version gets the 2.4-liter 2GD-FTV turbo diesel engine, which produces 150 horsepower, 343 Nm for the six-speed manual, and 400 Nm for the six-speed automatic. Of course, as with the preview during the recent Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS), numerous Tamaraw configurations will be showcased, helping you gain ideas for how to maximize the Tamaraw’s business potential.

Full pricing and specifications for the new Toyota Tamaraw will be revealed on December 6, and if you visit the display at the Glorietta Activity Center on December 8, you will be witnessing the performance of a surprise BIDA guest as well. In the meantime, you can read or watch our preview of the Toyota Tamaraw during the Toyota Road Trek.
