What You Need To Know About Geely PH’s New Management

Geely Philippines is now a fully-owned subsidiary of Geely Group, and with that, there's a lot of changes happening in 2025.

Geely Philippines is back, but wait a minute, they never left, right? Well, to be precise, Geely Philippines is now under new management. Specifically, Geely Automobile International Corporation (GAIC) took over the operations—a fully-owned subsidiary of Geely Group. Geely Philippines was formerly operated by Sojitz G Auto Philippines Corporation (SGAP), but now, as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Geely, they have more direct control of Geely Philippines. Therefore, expect sweeping changes under the new management, from fresh new models, restructured pricing, and more importantly, aftersales quality that you can finally trust.

Enhanced Geely Emgrand

Geely Philippines has also taken this opportunity to upgrade the Emgrand, its compact sedan that’s priced alongside smaller subcompact sedans. Priced at P949,000, the new Emgrand doesn’t come with any exterior enhancements. That’s because all of the changes were made inside, wherein the 8-inch infotainment touchscreen has been replaced by a larger 12.8-inch screen, along with a new operating system and finally, Apple CarPlay (though Android Auto is still not available). The driver also now benefits from a power-adjustable seat, while the previous blue interior color has been swapped out for a more conventional black color scheme.

Finally, the new Emgrand gets a new 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine, whose power output has been boosted to 122 horses (+20 horsepower) and 152 Nm of torque (+10 Nm). This is mated to a CVT that drives the front wheels. The new Emgrand is also sold in a single variant this time around.

Fully-Electric EX5 To Lead Geely’s Charge

Geely EX5 Philippines

Geely Philippines is also set to introduce four new models this year, and this will be led by the fully electric Geely EX5. This is a compact crossover SUV that’s directly competing with the BYD Atto 3 in China, and that’s reflected in its dimensions. Measuring 4,615 mm long, 1,901 mm wide, and 1,670 mm tall, it is a slightly bigger direct competitor to the Atto 3.

Riding on the newest GEA platform, the Geely EX5 carries the brand’s newest design language for its Galaxy line of electric vehicles (EVs0 and plug-in hybrids. The minimalist styling cues and clean panels result in an SUV that has a drag coefficient of just 0.269 Cd. Slim LED headlights, flushed door handles, and spiffy 19-inch wheels help set the EX5 apart from other compact crossover SUVs, electric or otherwise.

Thanks to the GEA bespoke EV and plug-in hybrid platform, there’s excellent space utilization inside the EX5. Not only is it spacious though, but it’s also a premium and high-tech one at that. There are plenty of soft-touch materials and leatherette surfaces all around, while the frequently touched surfaces are covered in matte textures.

The GEA platform also debuts the brand’s newest Flyme Auto operating system, which is a software-defined-vehicle (SDV) electronics architecture that enables over-the-air (OTA) updates that let the EX5 receive new features down the line. Apple CarPlay is fitted to the EX5, though Android Auto is still missing. On the upside, there’s a 14-speaker Flyme Audio sound system, along with a plethora of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).

Powering the EX5 is a single electric motor that drives the front wheels, and this produces 217 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque. Electrons come from a new Geely Short Blade Battery, which has a 6.7 percent higher energy density and 52 percent faster charging rate compared to other lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries. Its 60.22 kWh size enables it to have a 430-kilometer range, while a 30 to 80 percent charge is good for just 20 minutes thanks to its maximum of 100 kW in DC fast charging.

Revised Pricing Structure

One of the company’s first goals in the Philippines is to bring back Geely to its glory days and to do that, its existing vehicle lineup is receiving price revisions.

  • GX3 Pro S M/T – P729,000
  • GX3 Pro Comfort A/T – P799,000
  • Coolray Comfort Plus – P1,139,000
  • Coolray Premium Plus – P1,199,000
  • Coolray Sport Plus – P1,299,000

Improved Aftersales

Aftersales is one of the leading ownership concern for Filipino customers, and with that Geely Philippines aims to tackle that to the core. They recently opened a new spare parts center, whose logistics system aims to reduce lead times from ordering to delivery to the nearest Geely dealership. Two additional warehouses are set to open as well, one in Visayas and one in Mindanao, thus fully covering the entire nation.

Finally, Geely Go is set to be a program that aims to connect owners with the brand’s now-diverse aftersales team. One of its initial programs is Geely Refer and Earn, in which if a Geely owner can bring a customer to a dealer, both of them will receive a P2,000 maintenance voucher. An additional P2,000 maintenance voucher will be given if the referred customer makes a downpayment for a new Geely.

With all of these promises, new models, and aftersales initiatives on their way, will you consider Geely once again as one of your next vehicles?
