The next-generation 2026 Lexus ES has finally been revealed. Featuring a complete redesign from the ground up, the new ES midsize luxury sedan is one of the brand’s flagbearers for its increased and more aggressive push towards electrification.

That’s because for the first time ever, the 2026 Lexus ES will be offered in pure electric form. Called the ES 350e and ES 500e (as shown), the former uses a single motor front-wheel drive (FWD) layout that produces 224 horsepower. On the other hand, the more powerful ES 500e gets a powerful dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) layout that produces 343 horsepower.
Though the battery size has not yet been revealed, the ES 350e gets 685 km of range, while understandably, the more powerful ES 500e gets a slightly lower range of 610 km. Both were tested on the Chinese CLTC cycle, so expect these figures to be a bit lower with other testing standards.
If you’re not yet ready for the pure electric era, the new generation Lexus ES still accommodates hybrid drivetrains. The ES 300h comes in two versions—a 2.0-liter version with 197 horsepower, while the 2.5-liter version produces 201 horsepower. ES 300h is only available in FWD, while the ES 350h, whose 2.5-liter gas engine delivers a 247 horsepower system output, is available with AWD.

Enabling the ES to accommodate both hybrid and pure electric drivetrains is a heavily reengineered TNGA-K platform. Sitting on top of that platform is a sleek and curvaceous body, which is a huge departure from Lexus’ typical sharp-edged design. For the new generation ES, Lexus is showcasing a new design language that’s focused on making things look smoother and cleaner. The reimagined Spindle Grille, now evolving into an enclosed Spindle Body, only contains a small lower air intake as it heavily embraces electrification.

The side profile comes with a striking character line with a black trim piece to make it seem like it has a side vent. This is complemented by a fastback-style roofline, which flows to the rear trunk lid that reveals a set of thin full-width LED taillights. Finally, a set of 18 or 19-inch wheels is available, depending on the market and variant.
Like the exterior, the interior of the 2026 Lexus ES has received a complete makeover. It’s a complete departure from the visually cluttered but striking interior of the previous ES. For this new generation model, a simpler horizontal dash comes with two screens as standard. There’s a digital driver’s display, along with a 12.3-inch main infotainment display. On higher variants or as an optional extra, there’s another 12.3-inch display for the front passenger.
Of course, being a Lexus, there are a few new tech features that aim to improve cabin comfort, and that’s achieved through the new Sensory Concierge. Basically, this feature automatically manipulates the interior illumination, climate, and fragrance to cater to whatever program you selected.
Lexus also pays a lot of attention to the car’s build quality. The ES has always been known for exceptional luxury and craftsmanship, and with this new generation model, they are introducing two material choices. Bamboo Layering introduces a homey finish to the interior, while the Synthetic Leather Embossing adds visual interest through patterned soft surfaces. Lastly, as an ES, interior space also plays a key role in enhancing the luxury experience. This is complemented by what Lexus calls their Responsive Hidden Switches, which, though physical controls have been greatly reduced, those that remain are kept visually hidden from the interior design for a seamless look.
The 2026 Lexus ES will have a global rollout, and it will also make its Japanese debut at the upcoming 2025 Japan Mobility Show. The new ES is also the first vehicle under Lexus’ rebranding, in which more information will be revealed at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show later this year.
