Remember the Mitsubishi L300 Versa van? Well, even if L300’s passenger van version isn’t making a comeback anytime soon, the nameplate sure did. Say hello to the 2026 Mitsubishi Versa, which brings back an iconic nameplate that was last heard in 2009.
The original L300 Versa van was known for its reliability and durability, but humorously, it is also known for its sinister role in kidnapping scenes in various Filipino movies and TV series. This new model, however, aims to kidnap your heart through its reliable 2.5-liter turbo diesel engine that produces 129 horsepower and 356 Nm of torque. This is mated to a five-speed manual that drives the rear wheels. If those power figures are familiar to you, that’s because the engine is exactly the same that’s fitted to the Nissan Urvan–aka the YD25DDTi.
In fact, that is pretty much what the 2026 Mitsubishi Versa is. It is essentially the NV350 Urvan, but with a Mitsubishi badge instead of the Nissan badge. Up front, what you’ll see is Nissan’s V-Motion grille and front bumpers, along with the same halogen headlights and wheels. There’s only so much that you could do, design-wise, to a van, so we’ll talk about the interior right away.
Well, if you’ve sat inside a Nissan Urvan, that same sense of deja vu carries over. The dash is exactly the same, except once again for the Mitsubishi badges instead of using Nissan logos. Features-wise, you get a 1DIN radio with a provision for a 2DIN aftermarket unit, along with three rotary knobs for the air conditioning system. There are also analog gauges with a TFT multi-information display and two SRS airbags.
Built with business in mind, the 2026 Mitsubishi Versa has seating for up to 15, while the interior is focused on durability rather than providing a premium feel. Likewise, the 2.5-liter turbo diesel is designed for ease of maintenance and parts, especially since the parts’ commonality with a Nissan Urvan means that spare parts are abundant already.
If you’re in the market for a Mitsubishi Versa, then you’ll be surprised that it is being sold for P1,649,000. Oddly enough, that’s nearly P400,000 more expensive than an equivalent Nissan Urvan, even if the Urvan has safety features like automatic high beams and electronic stability control.
