GAC GS8 HEV (Hybrid) Pre-Orders Begin This Month

GAC International Philippines, Inc. has announced during its recent 2026 GAC Philippines Dealer Conference its future product plans. Specifically, the GAC GS8 HEV is set to become the brand’s newest and latest electrified offering in the three-row premium midsize SUV segment. 

With pre-orders beginning this month, GAC GS8 HEV introduces a second, electrified powertrain choice beyond the already available 252-horsepower 2.0-liter turbo gasoline engine. For those who are eagerly waiting for the GS8 HEV, it will be powered by a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder that produces 190 horsepower, along with two electric motors that produce 182 horsepower at the front and 54 horsepower at the rear. The all-wheel drive (AWD) hybrid system is called Mega Wave THS, with THS denoting that it is based on the Toyota Hybrid System. GAC, after all, is one of Toyota’s technical joint venture partners in China.

For now, the total system output has not yet been announced, but in China, these three powertrain sources result in a 233-horsepower system output, while its 0-100 kph time is 6.8 seconds. Like Toyota’s hybrids, power is routed through a planetary gear e-CVT. 

Based on their provided photos, GAC International Philippines, Inc. is bringing in the updated GS8 HEV, which now features a taller and more aggressive grille, a sportier front bumper, and more body-colored cladding. Inside, the GS8 HEV features new software for the 14.6-inch touch screen infotainment system. For now, the Philippine specs have not yet been revealed, but in China, the GS8 HEV comes with features like a panoramic sunroof, second-row captain’s chairs, and a premium Alpine sound system.
