After being previewed at last month’s Manila International Auto Show, the fully electric BYD Sealion 7 finally arrives in the Philippines today. The Model Y-rivaling electric vehicle (EV) aims to combine breathtaking performance with everyday usability at a competitive price.
But of course, it is indeed the price that’s almost always a headline with a BYD launch. The new BYD Sealion 7 Performance, which already competes speed-wise with the Model Y Performance, retails for P2,588,000. That’s a lot less than what you’ll have to pay for with its Tesla rival, spec-for-spec.
So what do you get for this amount of money? Well, let’s begin with its electric drivetrain. As the 4.5S badge denotes, it only takes 4.5 seconds for the Sealion 7 to sprint from 0-100 kph due to its dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) system that produces a whopping 523 horsepower and 690 Nm of torque.
The Sealion 7 Performance also offers 542 km of pure electric range, while it can be charged at up to 150 kW in DC rapid charging or 11 kW in AC charging
Sporty 20-inch alloy wheels match the sleekness of the Ocean Aesthetics design of the Sealion 7, whose front fascia results in an X-shaped motif. Slim LED headlights are positioned slightly higher than the car’s hood line, giving the front end a purposeful look. The curvaceous roof neatly tapers to the well-proportioned rear end, in which full-width LED taillights dominate the rear fascia.
The interior, meanwhile, has one of BYD’s most premium designs yet, featuring generous plush materials, as well as the latest cutting-edge tech. These include two digital screens, including BYD’s rotating 15.6-inch touch screen and a full glass roof. Those at the front are treated to power-adjustable front seats with heating and cooling, while everyone will appreciate the Dynaudio premium sound system. There’s also a generously-sized front trunk along with a spacious rear trunk.
Finally, as for safety, the full DiPilot advanced safety suite ia fitted as standard, and it includes a facial recognition sensor to monitor driver fatigue. This comes on top of a 360-degree camera, a plethora of airbags, along with other safety features.
