Coming from the launch of the Jaecoo J5 SHS-H hybrid, the Chinese automaker is now bringing in its pure electric version. This is the new 2027 Jaecoo J5 EV, which features similar styling and features, but with a pure electric drivetrain. You can see it in person at the ongoing 10th Philippine International Motor Show, which runs from June 4 to June 7.
Of course, the main highlight of the 2027 Jaecoo J5 EV is its pure electric drivetrain, which in this case drives the front wheels. It produces 208 horsepower and 288 Nm of torque, which is good for a 0-100 kph time of 7.7 seconds. Through a 58.9 kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery from CATL, the J5 EV offers a range of up to 461 kilometers, based on NEDC testing. Charging power peaks at 130 kW in DC, which is good for a 30 to 80 percent charge in just 28 minutes. AC charging, meanwhile, is capped at 6.6 kW.
As for its design, the 2027 Jaecoo J5 EV still utilizes a similar baby Range Rover design of its hybrid sibling, albeit with a few tweaks. For instance, the front end looks cleaner, thanks to the removal of the large front grille. Instead, you’re now left with a more minimalist lower air intake. The side profile and rear flanks remain largely unchanged, though in our opinion, the J5 EV’s cleaner front end improves its design somewhat.
Inside, the 2027 Jaecoo J5 EV features a plush dashboard filled with soft-touch materials, along with leather and leatherette upholstery across the interior. There are power-adjustable front seats, a large 13.2-inch portrait touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with wireless charging. Like the hybrid version, the J5 EV has an electronic stalk-type gear selector, plus a large panoramic glass roof and a powered tailgate.
A full suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) is fitted as standard in the J5 EV, and these include automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, full-speed adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning, and a 540-degree view camera, among other features.
The new 2027 Jaecoo J5 EV is now on sale in the Philippines for P1.4 million, and each purchase comes with one year of roadside assistance, one year of free maintenance, three years of telematics services through the smartphone app, and a 7 kW wall charger.
