Mitsubishi ASX Is Now An EV Created By An iPhone Contract Manufacturer

Remember the Mitsubishi ASX? It was once a subcompact crossover SUV that was based on the Lancer. Today, the ASX has been reborn as a fully electric vehicle (EV).

This, however, isn’t a ground-up design from Mitsubishi. Instead, the ASX, which is now called the ASX VR-e, is a rebadged Foxtron Bria. Foxtron is an EV manufacturer based in Taiwan, and it’s a joint venture between iPhone contract manufacturer Foxconn and Taiwanese automobile manufacturer Yulon.

The Mitsubishi ASX VR-e’s design was penned by Pininfarina, the Italian design house that made the supercar icons we know and love today. Almost everything remains the same as the one in the Bria, save for the Mitsubishi emblem and script. At least the full-width LED light bar integrated into the headlamps gives the front end a bit of design distinction.

20-inch wheels are fitted to the ASX VR-e, and along with it is a sleek side profile with flush door handles and a black roof. The C-pillar has an interesting pattern that mimics the design of other Mitsubishi models, but this is the only design detail that’s changed from the Bria. Unfortunately, there aren’t any shots of its rear end, but the Foxtron Bria has full-width LED taillights.

Moving inside the Mitsubishi ASX VR-e, the design is largely similar to the Bria, but with the Mitsubishi emblem replacing the Foxtron emblem. There’s a predominantly horizontal dash design, which features a large infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There’s also wrap-around LED ambient lighting, along with faux wood trims on the dash. Lastly, there’s also a digital instrument cluster.

Technical specs of the Mitsubishi ASX VR-e have not yet been revealed, but it’s safe to assume that it will be similar to the Foxtron Bria. For reference, all versions of the Bria come with a 57.5 kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery, which juices up either a 229-horsepower rear-wheel drive (RWD) or 400-horsepower dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) system.

The Mitsubishi ASX VR-e was initially unveiled in Australia, where this will be the EV’s first market when it arrives Down Under in Q4 2026.
