Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) welcomed stakeholders, government officials, and media at its manufacturing plant and headquarters in Santa Rosa City, Laguna, for an exclusive preview of the brand-new conversion of the new Toyota Tamaraw. Guests were given the chance to see the Tamaraw MPUV (Modern Public Utility Vehicle) in person. The new conversion showcases the Toyota Tamaraw’s proven versatility and adaptability as a workhorse vehicle.
The new Toyota Tamaraw was first launched back in 2024. Since then, it has become a staple for many businesses in the country. Backed by Toyota’s proven quality, durability, reliability, and aftersales services, customers have found many uses for the vehicle in and outside of its intended use as a workhorse vehicle.
Back in 2023, the first-ever prototype for the Toyota Tamaraw PUV was unveiled by Toyota Motor Corporation Chairman Akio Toyoda. Three years after the first prototype, the Toyota Tamaraw MPUV is set to hit the country’s roads.
In 2026, the new Toyota Tamaraw was granted the “Modern PUV” certification from the Department of Transportation. Driven by Toyota’s commitment to developing relevant mobility solutions for Filipinos, TMP constantly gathered and listened to the voices of local government units (LGUs), transport cooperatives, operators, and government agencies. Their collective feedback has led to the creation of the Toyota Tamaraw MPUV.
The Toyota Tamaraw MPUV is locally manufactured at the TMP Santa Rosa plant. And indeed, the Toyota Tamaraw MPUV fulfills its modern role perfectly, as it comes with the 2GD- FTV 2.4-liter turbo diesel engine that produces 150 horsepower and 343 Nm of torque. This is hooked up to a five-speed manual transmission and is Euro 4 certified. A reverse camera is also fitted as standard, along with automated fare collection, a built-in CCTV, and 4G LTE WiFi inside.
The Toyota Tamaraw MPUV has a unit cost of P1,389,000. To make it more accessible to operators, there is a P210,000 government subsidy for eligible transport sector enterprises, while an auto loan through a government bank can lower the down payment to 5 percent and offer payment terms of up to 84 months. Meanwhile, for those financing through Toyota Financial Services, a down payment as low as 10 percent and payment terms of as long as 60 months are also available.
After the preview at Toyota’s manufacturing plant, the Toyota Tamaraw MPUV is set for public launch at the upcoming 2026 Philippine International Truck Summit (PITS) on October 22-24 at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City.
