The Volkswagen Polo is the German brand’s subcompact offering, competing with the City, Jazz, Fiesta, Vios, and the likes. A standout feature of the Polo Sedan we currently have is its 1.6 TDI diesel engine, with only the Accent being the other vehicle with a diesel engine. As good as it may be, the lack of an automatic transmission, which most people buy nowadays, and also the lack of many modern standout features keeps it from being a true volume seller, as Volkswagen’s best selling car locally is the Tiguan. The new Volkswagen Polo Hatch is now here, and in facelifted form as well.

The Polo Hatch is marketed by Volkswagen as a Volkswagen for young professionals. They hope that young people will consider a Polo to be their first car. In order to achieve that, an elegant but youthful look must be achieved. Psychedelic colors are offered in the new Polo Hatch, and this very bright orange color we see is the primary color that Volkswagen markets it with. 15 inch “Riverside” design alloy wheels keep the exterior looking fresh and sporty.
“Touch screen “Composition Color” MIB infotainment not offered. RCD 320 monochrome radio instead of the color touch screen is equipped in the Philippine market Polo. Photo may vary from actual unit.”
Inside, upgraded materials, “Livon” design fabric seats, and a new center console give it a contemporary and classy vibe that Volkswagens have been known for. Volkswagen’s RCD 320 with radio, CD, MP3, Aux-in, SD card/USB slot, and Bluetooth connectivity is finally offered as standard. Other features that boosts practicality include a 60:40 split folding rear seat, and steering wheel audio controls, and for safety, dual SRS airbags, ABS, Park Distance Control, 3 point seatbelts for all 5 occupants, and ISOFIX child seat anchors keep everyone in check in the case of an accident.
Powering the Volkswagen Polo Hatch is a 1.6 liter MPI multi-port injection petrol engine instead of the same TDI diesel engine powering the Polo Sedan. The engine produces 105 hp @ 5,250 rpm and 153 Nm of torque @ 3,750 rpm. Power is distributed through a 6-Speed Automatic Transmission. This powertrain combination gives the Polo Hatch an Euro IV emission rating.
Volkswagen Philippines aims this Polo Hatch to become a volume seller, and in order to achieve this, price should also be competitive. The Volkswagen Polo Hatch is sold for P950,000, and Volkswagen is offering an attractive P95,000 financing package scheme.
