2016 PIMS: Jeep Joins The Small Crossover Craze With The New Renegade

Jeep is usually known for its large, brash, and bold off-road capable SUVs, but it doesn’t mean they only cater to a select few people and in the high end of the spectrum, because the SUV experts have just released this, the all-new Jeep Renegade small SUV.

Jeep knows the large profits it can rake in due to the small crossover craze that the world is currently raving about, so it’s no surprise to us that they developed a small SUV. Thankfully, the Renegade does not stray far from the traits that made Jeep famous in the first place. For starters, the Renegade is the most rugged looking of the bunch. Whereas its competitors try to be car-like, the Jeep Renegade sticks through to being a small crossover SUV, and it’s looks are not just for show. It is purpose built to be taken out of the road and into the forest, equipped with Jeep’s Select-Terrain 4×4 system, and a relatively high ground clearance from its competitors. The boxy shape helps interior space as it gives plenty of headroom even for tall people.

Speaking of the interior, the Renegade features what Jeep calls a “Tek-Tonic” interior, whatever that’s supposed to mean. Past the marketing brouhaha, it means that the interior should be a pleasant place to be in, thanks to the perfect blending of soft and hard materials, plus the perfect combination of shapes and surfaces inside the cabin. The Chrysler Group’s excellent UConnect infotainment system dominates the center console, which comes fitted with Bluetooth, USB input, and a navigation system.

Powering the Jeep Renegade is a 1.4 liter turbocharged MultiAir 2 inline-4 cylinder engine. It produces 166 hp and 250 Nm of torque, via a 9-Speed Automatic, through the said Select-Terrain 4×4 system that lets drivers switch from rock, sand, snow (uh?), and road modes. Other systems that ensure a safe and comfortable driving experience include Lane Departure Warning, Roll Mitigation, Forward Collision Warning, Hill Start Assist, and a plethora of airbags.

The Jeep Renegade retails for P1,941,000, which is half a million pesos more than its most expensive rival, the Mazda CX-3 2.0 AWD.
