2020 Honda Accord Will Arrive In The PH This September

The executive sedan segment is seeing a rejuvenation here in the Philippines.

Yes, you read that right. Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. is launching the new Accord in the Philippines in the fourth week of September.

The all-new Honda Accord has been quite a long wait for the Philippine market, with the midsize executive sedan making its global debut almost two years ago. Nevertheless, it is now confirmed that the all-new Accord is indeed coming to the Philippines. This is because Honda Cars Philippines recently sent invites to the media, containing a shot of the Honda Accord’s LED headlights.

The all-new Accord first made its ASEAN debut in Thailand, as expected since Thailand is Honda’s regional hub. From here, we can predict the engine choices that Honda may be offering in the Philippines.

In Thailand, the Accord has two engine choices. There is a 1.5-liter inline-4 turbocharged VTEC Turbo petrol engine that’s also found in the CR-V, which produces 192 hp and 260 Nm of torque. This is mated to an Earth Dreams CVT.

The other is a hybrid system that consists of a 2.0-liter inline-4 petrol engine producing 143 hp and 174 Nm of torque, along with an electric motor that develops 181 hp 314 Nm of torque. Honda says this gives the car a combined maximum output of 212 hp. This hybrid system is unique as the engine does not directly power the front wheels.

When the refreshed Honda Civic made its ASEAN debut in Thailand, Honda Sensing became available for Honda’s popular compact sedan, at least in Thailand, so call us surprised when Honda decided not to offer the Civic here in the Philippines with their advanced assist safety features. Here’s to us hoping that the Accord will have Honda Sensing equipped at least in some variants for the Philippine market.

The midsize executive sedan segment is declining, but there’s still life in this segment as it now becomes more of an aspirational segment rather than something bought out of necessity. SUVs and crossovers have become the norm nowadays, so it at least makes us happy that Honda will continue to offer a midsize executive sedan for the Philippine market.
