It also shames its competitors in features.

MG Philippines has finally revealed the details of its all-new MG 5 at the Cebu Auto Show, and suffice to say, the subcompact sedan impresses with its technologically advanced features and of course, its size.

While MG Philippines is setting its sights at the subcompact (B-segment) sedan segment, the MG 5 is dimensionally a C-segment compact sedan by global standards. At 4,601 mm long, 1,818 mm wide, and 1,489 mm tall, the MG 5 is as big as a Honda Civic, Mazda 3, Toyota Corolla Altis, just to name a few. Like its other models, the MG 5 is based on other cars within the SAIC group. In this case, the MG 5 is a rebadged Roewe i5, one of China’s popular compact sedans. Its exterior design is characterized by its wide grille flanked by automatic LED headlights on the upper variants. Higher variants also get two-tone 16-inch alloy wheels, passive entry with push-button start, and even a sunroof!

Its relatively large exterior dimensions give it best-in-class space. Likewise, its 2,680 mm wheelbase provides passengers with plenty of legroom at the rear seats. Drivers are greeted by a color multi-information display, automatic climate control, as well as a large 10-inch touch screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It’s also the only subcompact with an electronically-adjustable driver’s seat.

Safety is also one of the MG 5’s strengths. There’s a rear view camera, which comes on top of a first-in-class 360-degree around-view camera, four airbags, electronic stability control, hill start assist, as well as tire pressure monitoring.

Under the hood of the MG 5 is a 1.5-liter inline-4 petrol engine, producing 114 hp and 150 Nm of torque, driving the front wheels via a 5-speed manual or a CVT. Four-wheel disc brakes are standard even on the base variant.

The MG 5 is now on sale on all MG dealers in the Philippines, and it comes in six colors: Moon White, Meteorite Black, Carbon Gray, Extreme Speed Red, Morning Gold, and Laser Blue. Like all MG models, it has a 5-year/100,000km warranty (whichever comes first), and a 1-year free periodic maintenance service (PMS). MG owners can also download the My MG Android smartphone app which allows them to schedule vehicle servicing appointments, as well as for booking a visit from a Mobile Garage service caravan that provides MG owners with vehicle home service for major technical issues. MG HERO Services, on the other hand, provides 24/7 roadside support through the MG Philippines hotline (+632 328 4664).
