Subaru Ascent Will Be Called Evoltis When It Arrives In PH

It will specifically arrive in the second half of 2020.

It has been confirmed back in November 2019 during the Subaru Palm Challenge that Motor Image will offer the 7-seater Subaru Ascent to the Philippine market this year as Subaru aims to capture the market’s need for a plush 7-seater large unibody SUV such as the Ford Explorer and Mazda CX-9. Details about the biggest vehicle that Subaru has ever made have since been scarce ever since the announcement, at least until today.

During a Q&A session at the 2020 Singapore Motor Show with Glenn Tan, Deputy Chairman and Managing Director of Tan Chong International, he has revealed that the Subaru Ascent will be called the Evoltis due to trademark issues with the Ascent name. This is not the first time that Subaru has changed the name of its models to cater to local requirements as they’ve already done this for the Legacy in Australia, which is called the Liberty.

Additionally, Mr. Tan has also added that the Evoltis will be launched in the second half or Q3 of 2020, more or less within the same time frame as the Forester e-Boxer hybrid.

To recap, the Subaru Ascent… or rather the Subaru Evoltis is powered by a 2.4 liter boxer engine with direct injection and twin scroll turbocharging. It produces 260 hp and 375 Nm of torque sent through Subaru’s Symmetrical AWD system via Subaru’s Lineartronic CVT.

As always, a Subaru is also known for its generous safety equipment. Standard on all variants is a plethora of airbags, rear view camera, traction control, and Subaru’s EyeSight suite of active safety systems, which has automatic emergency braking and lane keeping assist as standard. Other advanced safety features include Blind Spot Detection and Rear Cross Traffic Alert with automatic rear braking.

With its new wave of upcoming SUVs, Subaru will soon have a very strong crossover SUV line-up that covers most of the Filipino market’s needs. Along with this is more than one hundred standard safety features as Subaru refocuses its brand on safety.
