Ford Philippines has sent media invites over the past few weeks indicating that it will be launching a new vehicle on January 23, 2020. The first invite was a photo of the great outdoors, with no direct hint of what vehicle would probably be launched. However, Ford Philippines has sent another set of invites for its upcoming launch event and it now confirms that we’ll be witnessing the unveiling of the 2020 Ford Ranger.
Based on the photo on the grille, it shows the front fascia of what looks like the FX4 variant that was globally unveiled late last year. Just like before, the FX4 is more of an aesthetic and equipment upgrade over the XLT variant. Consider it as some sort of gap between the top trim Wildtrak and more mainstream XLT.
No final specifications have been announced, so we’ll just be predicting what Ford might offer in the Philippines based on the Ranger FX4’s specifications in Australia. Its exterior upgrades include the same front grille found in the US-market Ranger, albeit finished in gloss black. The front bumper is the same as the XLT, while the rest of the exterior bits, including the 18-inch wheels, are finished in gloss black. At the back, the FX4 features a sports bar, as well as the obligatory FX4 badging at the tailgate.
Inside, the FX4 gets leather seats, red stitching accents on the seats, doors, gear lever, and soft-padded dashboard, two multi-information displays flanking the analog gauge in the middle, as well as Ford’s SYNC3 8.0-inch touch screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
We won’t be surprised if Ford Philippines will offer the FX4 with the tried-and-tested 2.2-liter Duratorq inline-4 turbo diesel engine that produces 160 hp and 385 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission.
