Ever wanted a Corolla Altis but found the standard model a tad too sedate? Well, Toyota Taiwan has just unveiled a new, sporty addition to its Corolla Altis line-up. It is called the Toyota Corolla Altis GR Sport, and while it uses the exact same mouthful of a name as the compact sedan that debuted in Thailand, that’s about where the similarities end.
Taiwan’s Toyota Corolla Altis GR Sport has a far more refined exterior than the one that debuted in Thailand. Overall, it still carries a sportier look, but the level of aggression has been dialed down to more appropriate levels for this car. The front bumper is characterized by a wide front lower grille which also houses the LED foglights. At the rear, the Corolla gets a sportier rear bumper with a faux rear diffuser. To top it all off, the car gets a blacked-out version of the standard 17-inch alloy wheels.
Whereas the Thai version features an all-black interior, the Taiwanese version adds more red accents. The front seats also feature an embossed GR logo on the headrests. As for the rest of the interior, they largely remain unchanged. It still features a user-friendly layout that’s sure to please most owners.
The Toyota Corolla Altis GR Sport isn’t just a showcase of the Gazoo Racing accessories catalog. Toyota has actually implemented mechanical updates through the use of a new GR sport suspension with thicker front and rear anti-roll bars and stiffer springs. In terms of the engine, it’s still the same as their standard Corolla Altis. There’s a choice of a 1.8-liter inline-4 petrol engine that produces 140 hp or a 1.8-liter hybrid powertrain that has a total system output of 121 hp. Only a CVT is offered for both powertrains.
As expected, Toyota’s latest offering features Toyota Safety Sense, which is the brand’s suite of advanced driver-assist systems such as full-speed adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, etc.
The Toyota Corolla Altis GR Sport is now on sale in Taiwan with a starting price of TWD828,000 (about P1.4 million). Do you wish Toyota Motor Philippines would offer a similar product here in our market?
