Remember cinemas? Yeah, we miss them too. The pandemic has made cinemas quite a dangerous place to be in. Plus, most of Luzon is still under general community quarantine (GCQ), which means movie theaters are still unable to operate. Even under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ), cinemas can only operate at up to 50 percent capacity. Thankfully, SM City Pampanga has a solution: a drive-in movie.
Starting this July 31, SM City Pampanga will be hosting its drive-in movie at its amphitheater, which will be held during Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Time slots are at 5:30 pm and 8:20 pm and ticket prices at P400 per head (not per car). The ticket cost includes popcorn, bottled water, and even a frankfurter.
Of course, drive-in movies probably won’t let you run your car’s engine for the entire duration of the movie due to emission concerns. This also means no air conditioning for those wanting for a cooler environment. With this in mind, electric vehicle (EV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) owners might be at an advantage since these cars can use their air conditioning while on pure electric power for a long period of time. Speaking of which, SM City Pampanga recommends at least two people and a maximum of four people inside the car.
Those living in Pampanga are sure to be extremely lucky that drive-in cinemas will soon become a thing in their area. SM City Pampanga will announce the on-sale date of the tickets for their drive-in movie on their Facebook page.
