Toyota Motor Philippines has unveiled the new 2021 Toyota Vios. The Philippines also happens to be the venue for Toyota to hold the global debut of this facelifted Vios. This is also the second facelift that the current-generation Vios has received since this model went on sale in 2013. With that said, the country’s best-selling car does get a host of aesthetic updates for the 2021 model year.
Most of the changes for the 2021 Toyota Vios were made at the front fascia. The upper grille remains the same, but the lower half of the grille has a sportier shape due to the new front bumper design. It certainly looks a lot more aggressive than the “smiling face” look of the current model. There are also new headlights, in which the G variant gets full LED headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights and a follow-me-home function. LED foglights are also standard from the mid-tier XLE and above. Alloy wheel designs remain the same, wherein two-tone 16-inch alloy wheels are standard for the G variant. Meanwhile, the XLE and E get 15-inch alloys, while the lower variants ride on steel wheels.
The interior design largely remains the same as the previous model. The only major change is the addition of a rear camera for the G variant. As for the rest of the features, a 7-inch touch screen infotainment is offered on the XE variant and above. Opting for the G variant adds automatic climate control, power-folding mirrors, smart entry with push-button start, leather steering wheel, leather shifter, and leather steering.
As for safety, all variants get electronic stability control and hill start assist. Lower variants come as standard with three airbags, but buyers are able to upgrade this to seven airbags. The E variant gets seven airbags as standard, while the G variant gets a reverse camera for the 2021 model year.
Powertrain options for the 2021 Toyota Vios remain unchanged. The 1.3-liter gasoline engine still produces 98 hp and 123 Nm while the 1.5-liter produces 106 hp and 140 Nm of torque. Transmission options are also unchanged, which is still a 5-speed manual or a CVT.
