The Mazda MX-5 is truly an iconic sports car that has captured the hearts of numerous car enthusiasts. It’s truly an emotional rather than a commodity product. With this car’s cult status, did you know that the Philippines also happens to have the highest number of Mazda MX-5 owners in Asia outside Japan?
This special information was revealed by Steven Tan, President and CEO of Mazda Philippines, during the launch of the Build Your Personal MX-5 Program. More than 1,000 Mazda MX-5s are currently on Philippine roads, in which 853 units were sold since 2014. This gives the Philippines the unique distinction of being the largest MX-5 market in Asia outside Japan.
Part of the success is because of the MX-5’s accessible price tag. It’s by far the most affordable open-top sports car available in the market, and its pricing is just within the ballpark of the usual family-friendly PPVs
Despite the pandemic, MX-5 sales in the Philippines during the pandemic hasn’t slowed down. For instance, when the Mazda MX-5 (and Mazda 3) 100th Anniversary Edition was launched in August, all 24 units of the sports car have been spoken for in just 3 weeks after the launch.
Because of these factors, Mazda Motor Corporation considers the Philippines as an important market for the Mazda MX-5, which is why it’s also one of the factors for the launch of its newest customization program.
Starting this month, prospective Mazda MX-5 owners will now be able to customize their dream sports car through the Build Your Personal MX-5 Program. In addition, Mazda Philippines is launching a new Premium Soft Top Manual variant that features options such as Red Nappa Leather or Premium Black Leather, 9-Speaker Bose sound system, automatic emergency braking (marketed as Smart City Brake Support), lane departure warning, among other features. Also equipped as standard for this Premium Soft Top Manual variant are Bilstein dampers and front strut bars.
