Lexus recently bagged the top spot in the third J.D. Power 2021 U.S. Automotive Brand Loyalty Study, besting 12 other car brands in the premium brand category. The results of the study showed Lexus as the preferred brand customers still bought cars from despite the limitations of physically going to the showroom during quarantine restrictions.
It is the third consecutive year for Lexus to stay on the top with a 51.6 percent loyalty rate. This is followed by Porsche at 50.2 percent. Up next is Mercedes-Benz at 47.0 percent, followed by BMW at 45.6 percent, and Audi at 45.5 percent.
Using data from the Power Information Network, the study calculates whether an owner purchased the same brand after trading in an existing vehicle for a new one. Customer loyalty is based on the percentage of vehicle owners who choose the same brand when trading in or purchasing their next vehicle.
Lexus also previously topped the J.D. Power 2021 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) with the Lexus GX in the Midsize Premium SUV category. The study measured the number of problems original owners experienced from their three-year-old vehicles during the past year. It covered 177 specific vehicular problems grouped into eight categories with Lexus scoring 81 compared to the average of 121 which shows the reliability and dependability of the brand.
