The Mini John Cooper Works GP Inspired Edition is now in the Philippines. Only 5 units of this limited edition Mini Cooper will be sold in the country. If you’re in the market for a premium hot hatch, better head to the nearest Mini dealer as soon as you can.
The Mini John Cooper Works GP Inspired Edition features a design that’s clearly inspired by the track-focused Mini John Cooper Works GP but without the aggressive aero and the added performance of that limited-production hot hatch. Instead, this is basically a Mini John Cooper Works with the color choices and trims that are inspired by the higher-performance GP. A shade of Racing Grey metallic is applied to the body and the contrast color Melting Silver metallic on the roof. There’s also a John Cooper Works rear spoiler and mirror caps, black engine bonnet scoop, black door handles, and black fuel lid. Lastly, 18-inch lightweight forged wheels in the John Cooper Works Cup Spoke design complete the look.
Mr Kidd Yam, Head of Mini Asia, said, “We received overwhelming response for the MINI John Cooper Works GP when we introduced the car in the Philippines in October last year. As such, we’ve specially developed the MINI John Cooper Works GP Inspired Edition to cater for fans who weren’t able to get their hands on the original, but still want to own a unique piece of motorsports history. This special edition was first conceptualized in Singapore, and only 5 units will be available in the Philippines.”
Standard interior equipment includes John Cooper Works sports seats at the front in Dinamica leather combination. The GP badge is integrated underneath the integrated headrests. This badge is also featured in the floor mats for the driver and front passenger. The “GP Inspired” lettering is displayed on the high gloss cockpit fascia, and both front and rear velour floor mats are finished in red stitching.
The John Cooper Works leather steering wheel has been designed in a unique concept. The steering wheel is covered in Walknappa Leather, features red stitching, and a stylish 3D printed metal center marking for the 12 o’clock position. The metal shift paddles on the steering wheel with the “GP” logo are likewise 3D-printed in metal. The keycap is also a product of the 3D printed process and makes a stylish statement with the “GP” lettering in the middle. Lastly, this special edition model also gets a Harman Kardon sound system.
Because this is based on the Mini John Cooper Works, the GP Inspired Edition model gets a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbo engine that produces 231 hp and 320 Nm of torque, with power sent to the front wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission.
As for driving assistance systems, the John Cooper Works GP Inspired Edition gets adaptive matrix LED headlights, front and rear parking sensors, vehicle distance warning, and traffic sign recognition. This comes on top of the usual suite of airbags and traction and stability control.
As mentioned, only 5 units of the John Cooper Works GP Inspired Edition will be sold in the Philippines, and all will be priced at P3,990,000.
