After nearly a year since its global debut in Thailand, the all-new 2022 Isuzu mu-X has finally reached the Philippines, making us the first left-hand drive (LHD) country to receive Isuzu’s latest pickup-based SUV.
From the outside, the all-new 2022 Isuzu mu-X’s design is a radical departure from the previous model. Isuzu’s popular PPV now features a more rounded silhouette. The all-new sheet metal is characterized by its bold grille that’s flanked by a pair of sleek LED headlights on all variants. The side profile features a curved rear window design that gives an illusion of having a coupe-like roofline. Moving towards the back, and you’ll see a large Isuzu badge at the rear tailgate. There’s also a pair of sleek LED taillights that cast a striking glow at night. Two alloy wheel designs are available, depending on the variant, with the 20-inch wheels being offered as standard on the top trim LS-E.
Step inside the mu-X, and you’ll see an interior that’s significantly more premium than what the previous model offered. There’s a generous serving of stitched details along with black leather upholstery on the LS-E variant. Further uplifting the mood is an available 8-speaker sound system with JVC Kenwood tweeters at the rear doors. Lastly, there’s a locally sourced 10.1-inch touch screen infotainment system that features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration that’s offered on all variants.
An electronic parking brake is offered on all variants, along with rear USB ports. Stepping up to the top-trim LS-E adds a powered tailgate, power-adjustable driver’s seat, 220V rear outlet, among other features.
Two engine choices are available for the 2022 Isuzu mu-X. Exclusive to the LS-E is a new 3.0-liter 4JJ3-TCX BluePower diesel engine that now produces 190 hp and 450 Nm of torque, an increase of 13 hp and 70 Nm over the outgoing 4JJ1-TCX. The 1.9-liter RZ4E-TC engine is an all-new engine, but it still produces 150 hp and 350 Nm of torque. Power is sent through the rear or all four wheels via a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission, with the manual only being available in the 1.9 LS-A.
Isuzu is also equipping the all-new mu-X with its suite of advanced driver-assist systems called Smart Duo Cam. The system uses stereoscopic cameras at the front and a rear-facing radar to enable features such as full-speed adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, blind spot warning, and rear cross traffic alert.
