One variant will be sold in the Philippines for now, and that is the S 500 AMG Line in long-wheelbase form. The front end features a bolder interpretation of the brand’s signature grille which is then flanked by a new kind of LED headlights called Digital Light. This LED lighting system has 1.3 million tiny actuators in each headlight and is even able to project visual warnings on the road. Combined, the entire headlight system features 2.6 million pixels.

While the side profile looks similar to the previous model, it now features pop-out door handles as standard. The rear end, on the other hand, features a new LED taillight design that’s unlike any Mercedes-Benz you’ve seen before. Those LED taillights feature an intricate three-dimensional design and feature sequential LED turn signals.

While the exterior redesign is evolutionary, the interior is a different story. It’s a radically different layout compared to the previous model’s interior. The S 500 AMG Line being offered has Nappa Leather upholstery and features wood trimmings. The all-new 2022 Mercedes-Benz S-Class debuts the next generation of the brand’s MBUX infotainment system. It’s now a full touch screen as the company has decided to ditch the touchpad controller for the S-Class. The portrait OLED screen features haptic feedback, while the “Hey Mercedes” voice assistant is can now be summoned from all five seats.

This next generation of MBUX also gains a number of security features, too. Alongside the classic entry of a PIN, a new authentication method ensures a high level of security. Fingerprint (via the home button), face, and voice recognition are combined for top-notch security. This allows access to individual settings or verification of digital payment processes from the vehicle.

The next-generation MBUX system also has five screens in the S 500 AMG Line variant that was shown, the fifth one being a detachable small tablet mounted at the rear center console for controlling in-vehicle functions. In addition to this, the LED ambient lights are now more than just for show. The number of LEDs has increased from 40 in the previous model to 250 in the all-new S-Class. These lights can now function as safety features. For instance, the blind spot warning glows in red in addition to the visual warning from the side mirrors.

A host of advanced driver-assist safety features are also equipped on the Philippine-market S-Class. This includes Active Distance Assist (radar-guided adaptive cruise control), Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Brake Assist (automatic emergency braking), Active Parking Assist, and a whole lot more that make for a semi-autonomous driving experience for the driver.

Additionally, the S 500 AMG Line gets Mercedes-Benz’s PRE-SAFE Impulse system. This set of features enable the vehicle to minimize injuries when a potential crash is about to happen. For instance, if the S-Class senses that a side collision is about to happen, the seats will adjust accordingly in order to nudge the occupants away from the potential impact.

As mentioned, the model that will be offered is the S 500, which means it gets a 3.0-liter inline-6 48-volt EQ Boost mild-hybrid turbo gasoline engine that produces 429 hp and 520 Nm of torque. Power is sent through all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic transmission.

The Philippine-market S 500 AMG Line also comes as standard with an adaptive Airmatic suspension. This ties in with the Dynamic Select drive mode selector, which can adjust the ride height and suspension firmness depending on the chosen drive more or road conditions.

The all-new 2022 Mercedes-Benz S-Class can now be viewed at all Mercedes-Benz dealers nationwide. Pricing is available upon request due to the flagship sedan’s highly customizable nature. If you’re curious, this particular local S 500 AMG Line featured in most of these photos is priced at P17.8 million.
