Facelifted 2022 MG ZS To Arrive In PH This October With Turbo Power

The 2022 MG ZS will be unveiled in the Philippines this October with a new, more powerful turbocharged gasoline engine.

MG Philippines has sent invites to an upcoming vehicle launch this October 5, and it seems it’s finally ready to bring in the mid-cycle facelifted model of its best-seller–the 2022 MG ZS.

Based on the teasers that the Sino-British automaker sent to us, it clearly gives a hint of the new 2022 MG ZS. The new facelifted ZS made its debut in the UK last year, which means it’s easy for us to show you what the new ZS will look like.

The grille now looks more distinct with its hexagonal shape and sporty mesh design. Flanking it are a pair of new LED headlight clusters. There’s also a new front bumper that looks sportier compared to the previous model.

The side profile largely remains unchanged, apart from its new set of alloy wheel designs. Moving towards the back, and we see a sportier rear bumper and a new set of LED taillights that mimic the design of the headlight clusters. There’s also a bit less body cladding compared to the pre-facelift model.

At this point, we are unaware of what kind of features the Philippine-market 2022 MG ZS will receive, though we won’t be surprised if it will be generously equipped with features such as the new, larger 10.1-inch infotainment system and a fully digital instrument cluster. Interior quality has also been improved with more soft-touch materials and upgraded buttons and switches.

What is confirmed through the invite is the presence of a turbocharged gasoline engine, though we do not know yet if the 1.0-liter or 1.3-liter version will be offered. The smaller engine produces 110 hp and 160 Nm of torque and is mated to a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic. On the other hand, the bigger turbo motor produces 160 hp and 230 Nm of torque and is mated to a 6-speed automatic.

The current MG ZS is only offered with a 1.5-liter inline-4 non-turbo gasoline engine that produces 114 hp and 150 Nm of torque. This drives the front wheels via a 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual. We still have no clue if these engines will be discontinued or not.

We won’t have to wait long until MG Philippines (The Covenant Car Company, Inc.) reveals all the details we need to know about its latest turbocharged crossover SUV.
