As part of Motor Image Pilipinas’ (MIP) six-car model offensive for the next 18 months, order books for the all-new 2022 Subaru BRZ are finally open. The twin of the Toyota GR 86 will soon arrive in the Philippines, though no specific date has been announced yet.
The all-new BRZ will start at P2,399,000 for the 6-speed manual and P2,499,000 for the 6-speed automatic with the EyeSight suite of autonomous safety tech. This is quite a significant price increase, but it also comes with an increase in both power and features.
For starters, the all-new 2022 Subaru BRZ will come with a larger and more powerful 2.4-liter four-cylinder boxer engine from the Evoltis three-row SUV and all-new WRX, albeit without the turbocharger. This engine produces 228 horsepower (+28 horsepower) and 250 Nm (+45 Nm) of torque. Utilizing the FA24 code name, the engine features Toyota’s D-4S direct-injection technology.
Based on a heavily revised version of the first-generation BRZ’s platform, this new model utilizes all the lessons learned from the highly-rigid Subaru Global Platform that all other Subarus are now using. The resulting chassis improvements have resulted in a 50 percent increase in torsional stiffness, making the all-new Subaru BRZ feel even more sporty and fun to drive.
As for features, we can expect stuff like a 7-inch fully-digital gauge cluster, 8-inch Starlink infotainment system, leather and/or suede upholstery, just to name a few. Interior materials have also been improved for a more premium feel. And as mentioned, this will also be the first time that the EyeSight suite of advanced driver-assistance tech will be made available in the BRZ.
