The 2022 Peugeot 5008 seven-seater SUV has finally arrived in the Philippines more than a year after it made its global debut. The newly-refreshed 5008 is just the first of a total of four vehicles that the French automaker will be bringing this year under its new Spanish distributor Astara.
The new 2022 Peugeot 5008, which is basically a lengthened seven-seater version of the 3008, features the French automaker’s latest frameless grille design. The distinctive grille’s horizontal lines extend beyond the grille and onto the fang-like LED daytime running lights. At the rear, the two crossover SUVs feature a new LED taillight design that’s covered in smoked glass. Topping it all of is a set of beautifully-designed 18-inch wheels.
Only one well-equipped variant will be sold in the Philippines, and it comes from Malaysia in order to take advantage of Stellantis’ regional manufacturing to keep pricing competitive. Still, as Peugeot elevates its brand image, it will compete in the high end of the mainstream segment, which means it should be somewhere between the lines of mainstream and luxury. Think of what Mazda has been doing for the past few years.
As such, the 2022 Peugeot 5008 comes with plenty of interior creature comforts. New for the 2022 model year is wireless charging and a 10-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto that replaces the previous 8-inch screen. Other tech goodies such as the fully-digital gauge cluster, electronic gear shifter, power-adjustable front seats, ambient LED lighting panoramic sunroof, hands-free powered tailgate, and full leather interior are carried over from the pre-facelift model.
Powering the 2022 Peugeot 5008 is a 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbo gasoline engine that produces 165 horsepower and 245 Nm of torque. This is then sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission.
As for safety, the new 5008 comes with six airbags, electronic stability control, hill start assist, hill descent control, along with a few advanced driver-assistance systems that include blind spot warning, lane keeping assist, and drive attention alert.
The 2022 Peugeot 5008 is now on sale across all of its 5 dealers in Pasig, Quezon Avenue, Iloilo, Alabang, and Pampanga for P2,260,000. In addition to the 5008, it’s safe to say that the all-new 2008 and refreshed 3008 SUVs will also make their way here, both of which also have a production line in Malaysia. The fourth model is still in question, but this could be the all-new 308, which was spotted by a reader of Malaysia’s automotive website Paultan.org being tested in their country. The Mazda 3-rivaling hatchback is also the first Peugeot to wear the brand’s new logo.
