GAC Motor Philippines has confirmed via a teaser post on its Facebook that it will bring in the Empow sports sedan at the 2022 Manila International Auto Show. As China’s answer to the Honda Civic RS Turbo or Kia Forte GT, the GAC Empow will set the tone for every upcoming performance-oriented car from the brand.
The Empow is unlike any other GAC before it. Rather than going for an elegant look, the Empow looks properly sporty. The overall proportions give the Empow a fastback style, and it’s perhaps the sportiest looking GAC to date. It’s a very organic design that we’ve come to know from GAC, one of the two Chinese brands that stand out for us in terms of how well designed and engineered its vehicles are.
As for its interior, the Empow also focuses on delivering a sporty atmosphere. There’s a twin-screen layout, a black and red or black and yellow interior colorway, and a sporty steering wheel. The interior is also well built, just like the GS4 we’ve recently tested. This sports sedan is also riding on GAC’s latest Global Platform Modular Architecture (GPMA) and if our experience in the GS4 is any indication, we expect the Empow to offer a well-sorted driving experience.
Under the Empow’s sporty hood is a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 177 hp and 270 Nm of torque, sending power to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. GAC claims a 0-100 kph time of 6.95 seconds with this powertrain.
Be one of the first to see the all-new GAC Empow in the flesh this April 7 to 10, 2022 at the 2022 Manila International Auto Show, which will be held at the World Trade Center in Pasay City. It is not yet confirmed as of the moment if GAC Motor Philippines will put the Empow up for sale in the local market.
