Say Hello To America’s 2023 Honda HR-V, Which Is Civic-Based

America will be getting a completely different 2023 Honda HR-V. Their version also rides on the same platform as the Civic.

This is the 2023 Honda HR-V, but wait, didn’t the HR-V already make its global debut a year ago? Yes, you’re right, and that model is making its Philippine debut on April 19 as well. What you’re seeing here is America’s own HR-V, and it’s slightly bigger than the global HR-V.

For starters, the American HR-V shares its platform with the Civic as opposed to the global version that’s based on the Jazz‘s platform. As a result, the American HR-V is larger in every respect compared to the previous model and even more so than the version that the rest of the world gets. The increase in size is also reflected in its styling, wherein the long hood, low window line, and rear quarter window hint at its girth.

Since it’s been confirmed that the American HR-V rides on the same platform as the Civic, it gets an independent multi-link rear suspension at the rear wheels as opposed to the global version’s torsion beam. Also confirmed is that the American 2023 Honda HR-V will get more power. Though Honda did not reveal any specifics, we expect the American HR-V to utilize the same 1.5-liter VTEC Turbo engine as the Civic, and it should produce around 180 horsepower, just like the American market Civic.
