The 2023 Changan CS55 Plus is the newest kid on the compact crossover SUV block. Would you pick this over the Ford Territory?

The 2023 Changan CS55 Plus has finally made its debut in the Philippines, and it’s a new compact crossover SUV vying for the top spot where the Ford Territory continues to dominate. The CS55 Plus slots in between the subcompact and recently-facelifted CS35 Plus and the slightly larger CS75 Plus.

From a styling perspective, the 4.5-meter-long SUV is probably the brand’s best effort yet. The enlarged grille that’s flanked by slim LED headlights looks cool, while the red accents have become a signature of many Changan crossover SUVs as of late. The side profile of the CS55 Plus is also well-proportioned, with all variants getting 19-inch wheels as standard. As for the rear, LED taillights come as standard, and they extend nearly toward the middle for a distinct glow at night.

Other features that the Changan CS55 Plus gets include a sunroof (panoramic sunroof for Hype and above variants), powered tailgate (Luxe), and rear fog lights, just to name a few.

As for the youthfully-styled interior, all variants get leather seats, 10.25-inch infotainment for the Lite or 12.3-inch unit for the Hype and Luxe, Apple CarPlay, power-adjustable driver’s seat, power-adjustable passenger’s seat (Hype and Luxe), and also a 10-inch digital gauge cluster on the Hype and Luxe variants.

Like most Chinese cars, the Changan CS55 Plus gets a small displacement 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. In this case, it produces 185 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque. All of that power is sent to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Safety is another aspect where the Changan CS55 Plus is aiming to set the standard. All variants come with the usual suite of airbags, electronic stability control, reverse camera, and even a blind spot camera. The Hype adds the benefit of automatic emergency braking, while the Luxe is fully-loaded with full-speed adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and automatic high beams.

The 2023 Changan CS55 Plus is now on sale at all of the brand’s dealers at the following prices:

  • CS55 Plus Lite: P1,179,000
  • CS55 Plus Hype: P1,283,000
  • CS55 Plus Luxe: P1,373,000
