At the Hyundai Motor Philippines (HMPH) media thanksgiving, the South Korean automaker used this opportunity to announce the official pricing for the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric crossover SUV. The Ioniq 5 was previewed at the recent Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS), and they also announced during the show that it’ll go on sale in the Philippines by January 2023.
As the launch date draws nearer, HMPH has now revealed full pricing and available variants, and they’re pretty good for an electric crossover. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 will be sold in two variants, both of which are single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) versions. The base GLS 2WD S comes in at P3,068,000, and this is the Standard Range model. As such, you get a 58 kWh battery that’s good for 352 kilometers and its electric motor produces 170 hp and 350 Nm of torque. This has a 0-100 kph time of 8.5 seconds.
On the other hand, the GLS 2WD L is the Long Range model, and this gets a larger 72.6 kWh battery pack that’s good for an impressive 481 kilometers when fully charged. This variant also gets a more powerful electric motor that produces 217 hp, though torque remains the same. The GLS 2WD L will be priced a P3,698,000, and it has a 0-100 kph time of just 7.4 seconds.
Considering that the tiny Nissan Leaf is priced at around P2.8 million, the Ioniq 5 represents excellent value for an EV. Don’t let its design fool you, because this is actually in the same size category as a Honda CR-V. However, since this rides on the E-GMP platform that’s also shared with the Kia EV6 and no other internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart, the Ioniq 5 has a 3-meter long wheelbase that’s even longer than the Palisade midsize SUV.
