The Singapore Motor Show is back after a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As usual, Subaru is the main highlight of this show, and the 2023 Subaru Solterra–the brand’s first foray into the electric SUV craze–made its ASEAN debut here.
If the 2023 Subaru Solterra looks familiar to you, that’s because it’s essentially the twin of the Toyota bZ4X. The Solterra and bZ4X are the results of a joint venture between Toyota and Subaru, just like the Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ. It looks similar to the Toyota bZ4X, but in order to bring the electric SUV more in line with Subaru’s design language, the Solterra differs itself from the bZ4X with its enclosed hexagonal grille, unique LED headlights with C-shaped LED daytime running lights, a revised front bumper design with integrated foglights, and new C-shaped LED taillights.
The interior is very futuristic, but unfortunately, the vehicle is locked since it’s a left-hand drive (LHD) unit. Remember, Singapore is right-hand drive (RHD), which means the model on display is actually not representative yet of the Singaporean spec model. Nevertheless, the interior features two displays, with the infotainment itself using Toyota’s latest software for its infotainment.
Powering the 2023 Subaru Solterra are two electric motors, making this an all-wheel drive electric SUV in typical Subaru fashion. The dual-motor layout has a total output of 215 hp, with its 71.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that’s good for 460 km.
Is the 2023 Subaru Solterra coming to the Philippines? That’s a fact that has not yet been confirmed by Motor Image, the distributor of Subaru in the ASEAN region. It’s still being evaluated for now, but considering that every automaker is suddenly interested in offering EVs in our market, there’s a high chance that the Solterra will be sold.
