Suzuki Philippines has finally unveiled the new Ertiga Hybrid. First previewed at the 2022 Philippine International Motor Show, the 2023 Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid serves as the Japanese automaker’s first foray into the world of electrification for the Philippine market.
From a design standpoint, the 2023 Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid is based on the design of the facelifted model. Depending on the variant, the features you get include 15-inch two-tone wheels, a chrome-studded grille, projector-type halogen headlights, and LED taillights on all variants, though the range-topping GLX gets the full vertical LED taillight graphics. Of course, to showcase its electrified powertrain, a hybrid badge is placed at the Ertiga’s tailgate as well.
Inside, the Ertiga Hybrid comes with a 4.2-inch color multi-information display on all variants, along with a D-shaped flat-bottom steering wheel. A 10-inch locally-supplied infotainment system also comes as standard on all variants, and it features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Splurging for the top trim GLX adds faux woodgrain trims, automatic climate control, ventilated cup holders, and smart entry with push-button start.
The 2023 Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid blends a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with a 12-volt integrated starter generator (ISG) and a lithium-ion battery. Despite what the name suggests, the powertrain actually operates merely as a mild hybrid. In fact, it can’t run on pure electricity like the hybrid models of Toyota and Lexus. Despite the electrification assistance, its total output is still the same as the outgoing non-hybrid model. The Ertiga Hybrid still produces 105 hp and 138 Nm of torque, and this is mated to either a 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual.
Of course, the 2023 Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid’s main selling point is its fuel economy, and according to the Japanese automaker, the Ertiga Hybrid can do at least 12.54 km/l in the city. This is a 7.6 percent improvement compared to the non-hybrid Ertiga. In addition, Suzuki’s first hybrid vehicle qualifies with the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA) implementing rules and regulations. With that, future owners will be exempted from number coding, and receive a 15 percent discount on vehicle registrations. The Ertiga Hybrid is also eligible for priority on vehicle and franchise registration and the TESDA training program, among others.
Lastly, as for safety features, the 2023 Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid is equipped with electronic stability control, rear parking sensors, and dual SRS airbags. The top trim GLX benefits further from a reversing camera.
The 2023 Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid is now in the Philippines with the following prices:
- GA MT: P954,000
- GL MT: P1,068,000
- GL AT: P1,103,000
