The Volkswagen Santana nameplate has been with us for a while now, and while this Chinese market Volkswagen brought down the barrier of entry into the brand, the vehicle didn’t experience the same sales numbers that most of its subcompact passenger car rivals experienced. With the new Volkswagen Cross Santana, the German automaker’s more rugged wagon offering hopes to attract buyers that would normally gravitate to traditional subcompact SUVs.
Slotting below the more modern T-Cross, the Volkswagen Cross Santana is based on the Santana GTS, but with an added dose of ruggedness thanks to its black body cladding, roof rails, redesigned front and rear bumpers, satin silver bumper trimmings, and black alloy wheels.
Surprisingly, the Santana Cross gets the same interior design and creature comforts as the Santana GTS. With that said, expect features such as a 6-speaker sound system, a 7-inch Infotainment system with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, leather and fabric seats with red stitching, and a sunroof.
Under the hood of the Volkswagen Cross Santana is a 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine that produces 110 hp and 150 Nm of torque. If this powertrain sounds familiar, that’s because this is the same engine powering the T-Cross. And also like the T-Cross, it uses a 6-speed automatic that drives the front wheels.
As for safety, the Cross Santana comes with six airbags, electronic stability control, ISOFIX child seat anchor points, rear parking sensors, and a reverse camera.
The new Volkswagen Cross Santana is now available for P1,098,000. In addition, the AC Motors Centrale showroom in Bonifacio Global City is holding its “Volkswagen Blue Tag Sale” to avail of discounts of up to 95% on select Volkswagen parts, accessories, and merchandise.
