2024 Mitsubishi Triton (Strada) Will Use A Completely New Engine And Platform

Mitsubishi Motors continues to tease the next-generation Triton (aka Strada for the Philippines), and it won’t just be a new body shell that uses the same engine and platform as before. The Japanese automaker is promising big things for its popular pickup, and with the new 2024 Mitsubishi Triton, the company won’t be leaving any stone unturned.

Mitsubishi has now confirmed that the 2024 Triton will use a newly developed ladder frame, chassis and clean diesel engine as a way to completely rewrite the Triton’s driving experience. A lot of the technical details are still shrouded in mystery, but Mitsubishi says that the new  Triton is a “one-ton pickup truck that condenses the essence of Mitsubishi Motors to provide safe, secure and comfortable driving for various weather and road conditions around the world.”

The new ladder-frame platform will contain a newly-developed double-wishbone front suspension and leaf spring rear suspension that provides excellent driving performance and ride comfort. Mitsubishi also says that the newly developed clean diesel turbo engine has improved environmental performance by significantly reducing friction loss while achieving higher output.

“Having the full model change of all-new Triton for the first time in about nine years, we have newly developed the engine, suspension, interior, and exterior, which has resulted in significant improvements in driving performance, comfort and safety,” said Yoshiki Masuda, chief product specialist, Mitsubishi Motors. “In addition, we have interviewed various customers about their usages and needs, and have repeatedly conducted development tests to meet the demands of a vehicle that works in a harsh environment. We are confident that this model will satisfy all customers around the world, from leisure use to commercial use. Please look forward to the unveiling of the all-new Triton.”

Yes, it’s been about nine years since the current generation Triton first made its debut, which means Mitsubishi had a lot of development time to create a new version of its popular pickup. Expectations are high for the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton, especially with new-generation pickups like the highly-acclaimed Ford Ranger already performing well in terms of sales, globally.

The launch of the all-new Triton is scheduled for Wednesday, July 26, at 10 am local time in Bangkok, Thailand (11 pm in the Philippines).
