3 Reasons Why The 2024 Toyota Wigo Is A Great First Car For Filipinos

The 2024 Toyota Wigo offers a lot of compelling features along with an improved driving experience thanks to a new platform and transmission.

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has just unveiled the newest version of its popular small car, the new Wigo. Nearly completely new from the ground up, the 2024 Toyota Wigo seems to be a great first car for first-time Filipino car buyers, and here are three primary reasons why that’s the case.

Modernized Design

The new 2024 Toyota Wigo comes with an exterior design that combines the familiar with modern-day design touches. The sportier look is characterized by a hexagonal grille that’s taller and wider than in the previous model. The modernity is provided by standard-fit LED headlights across all three variants, along with vertical LED daytime running lights on all variants. 14-inch wheels are fitted to all three variants, in which the E and G variants benefit from alloy wheels. Power-adjustable and power-folding mirrors and a rear spoiler complete the modernized look of the G variant of the Toyota Wigo.

Likewise, the interior also receives an overhaul for the 2024 model year. As this is a new generation model, the Wigo benefits from a sleeker, more modern dash design with new multi-function steering wheel and a floating 8-inch center touchscreen for the E and G variants. Of course, this comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The G variant also benefits from smart entry with push-button start, among other modern creature comforts.

An Overhauled Driving Experience

The new Wigo isn’t just dressed in a fancier suit, because underneath the skin is the new Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform that is also used in the Raize and the Veloz subcompact MPV that we loved so much. The DNGA platform has improved the driving experience of the Veloz significantly, and we expect a similar improvement in chassis rigidity and refinement for the new Wigo.

Likewise, the drivetrain has also been improved. The new 2024 Toyota Wigo uses a 1.0-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine that’s been carried over from the previous model, which means power is rated at 67 horsepower and 89 Nm of torque. Only this time, it is now fitted with a new CVT that should further improve the driving experience. A five-speed manual is fitted to the J variant.

Safety Is (And Should Be) Standard

Safety is an aspect where the 2024 Toyota Wigo absolutely shines. The DNGA platform should bring improved crash safety, but even before an accident happens, we’re happy to report that the 2024 Wigo comes with electronic stability control as standard. We always advocate for this feature to be fitted to all cars regardless of price and category, so we’re happy to find out that this is fitted on all variants of the Wigo. Even hill-start assist is fitted across all variants of the Wigo, and we’re all for it. This comes on top of the usual suite of airbags and in the case of the G, a reverse camera.

Impressed? We hope you also like what we’re seeing, and if that’s the case, here are the affordable prices of the 2024 Toyota Wigo, which are very impressive considering the generous features.

  • J MT: P609,000
  • E CVT: P684,000
  • G CVT: P729,000
