All You Need To Know About The Next-Generation 2024 Mitsubishi Strada

The all-new 2024 Mitsubishi Strada has been redesigned from the ground up in order to be competitive among newer pickups.

The 2024 Mitsubishi Strada (Triton) has finally been revealed, and as the company has promised, everything is new from the ground up. It’s aimed against other pickups like the Toyota Hilux and the equally-new Ford Ranger, and it’s the first full redesign of the nameplate in nine years.

And that nine years better be well spent because having such a long time between each generation should mean that no stone has been left unturned. While the new Ranger carried over with its decade-old (albeit still our class-favorite) T6 platform, the new Strada comes with a completely new ladder frame chassis with improved suspension and refinement. The platform also offers a 40% increase in bending rigidity and a 60% increase in torsional rigidity compared to the outgoing model.

The engine is also new, carrying the engine code 4N16 as opposed to the older model’s 4N15. It’s still a 2.4-liter turbo diesel engine in three states of tune. The base tune is 148 horsepower and 330 Nm of torque, while a mid-spec tune produces 181 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque. Sitting on top of the range is a first-ever twin-turbo version that produces 201 horsepower and 470 Nm of torque. This is sent to either the rear wheels or through a four-wheel drive (4WD) system via a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic.

The 4WD system is available in two versions. There’s an Easy Select 4WD or a Super Sepect 4WD-II with a limited-slip differential on top of a lockable center differential. The latter 4WD system also has Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand, and Rock drive modes.

The upgraded underpinnings have also given it upgraded looks. Completely new from the oil pan to the roof panel, the new Strada adopts a rugged, boxy look with a new interpretation of the brand’s signature Dynamic Shield grille. The range-topping Athlete trim comes with a body-colored grille, gloss black accents, and black fender flares, all of which are absent in the non-Athlete models. The side profile is characterized by squared-off wheel arches and more sculpted lines, while the rear end features vertical LED taillights with a tailgate spoiler on higher variants.

Inside, the 2024 Mitsubishi Strada looks significantly more upmarket than its predecessor. The horizontal dash design features the same infotainment system as the new Outlander, while a seven-inch multi-information display is positioned in between the two analog gauges. More importantly, addressing the older model’s cheap interior is a more liberal use of soft-touch materials along with more premium features like wireless charging and more comfortable seats.

Safety has also been stepped up in the new Strada, featuring a more comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) than ever before. Higher variants of the new Strada now come with Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Mitigation, Blind Spot Warning, Lane Change Assist, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, just to name a few.

Considering that this is one of the most important products of Mitsubishi globally, including the Philippines, we expect the new 2024 Mitsubishi Strada to arrive in our market sooner rather than later.
