Isuzu has just unveiled the facelifted 2024 Isuzu D-Max in Thailand, where the vehicle was mainly developed. The new D-Max builds upon the capabilities of the pre-facelift model, but with added technological and aesthetic qualities that improve the pickup’s appeal and competitiveness in the segment. However, with a special edition D-Max set to launch in the Philippines next week, when will this new model make its debut in our market?
For starters, the 2024 Isuzu D-Max has an improved front end across the range. There’s now a new, angular grille along with newly-designed LED headlights with a sleeker design for the LED daytime running lights. We do think that the light graphic looks quite similar to the Ford Territory, however. Anyway, moving towards the rest of the vehicle, there are new alloy wheel designs as well as a new graphic design for the LED taillights.
There’s also a new VCross variant that aims to compete with pickups like the Ranger Wildtrak and Hilux Conquest, and this variant focuses on having sportier details such as a more aggressive front end, sportier 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, roof rails, just to name a few.
Inside, the 2024 Isuzu D-Max’s interior remains largely unchanged except for a few new aesthetic enhancements. Depending on the variant and market, customers can now opt for a two-tone brown and black interior with heat-resistant CoolMax leather upholster, while higher variants now benefit from a 7-inch partly-digital instrument cluster. Other creature comforts worth mentioning include a 9-inch infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (though we’re confident Isuzu Philippines will be ditching this in favor of a locally-supplied 10.1-inch infotainment system), along with dual-zone climate control, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, just to name a few.
202
Mechanically, the 2024 Isuzu D-Max is unchanged, with the new D-Max still getting either an RZ4E 1.9-liter turbo diesel engine that produces 148 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque, while the range-topping engine remains to be the 4JJ3-TCX 3.0-liter turbo diesel engine that produces 190 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque. This is sent to the rear or all four wheels via a six-speed manual or automatic, depending on the variant. A rear locking differential is offered in overseas models, while in the Philippines, Isuzu Philippines thought it was a good idea to only offer the differential lock for the 4×4 MT.
Lastly, just like the pre-facelift D-Max, this new model comes with a suite of advanced driver-assistance systems, ranging from automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist (for right-hand drive models with an electric power steering), blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, just to name a few. What’s new for 2024 is the stereoscopic cameras’ wider field of view, which enhances system accuracy and performance.
With the new D-Max already been unveiled in Thailand, it would be interesting to see what Isuzu Philippines has in store for this model in the coming months since they’ve just teased a special edition model of the current D-Max. Thus, it might take a while, most likely in mid-2024, before the new D-Max reaches the Philippines market.
