When the Suzuki Jimny 5-door was revealed, the hype surrounding the vehicle went really high. After all, the Jimny has quite a strong following globally, including in the Philippines. The addition of two extra doors means that those who were put off from purchasing one due to its limited usability can now enjoy the Jimny with their families, and it seems that its arrival in the Philippines is happening very soon.
That’s because as you’ve seen in these photos, which come courtesy of Papi Glenn SP via Facebook, a shipment of Suzuki Jimny 5-door models has been spotted along STAR Tollway somewhere in Batangas. It presumably comes from the Port of Batangas–a common entry point for vehicles being imported into the country.
Speaking of imports, the Suzuki Jimny 5-door was primarily engineered and developed by Maruti Suzuki in India and is thus assembled in their country. Only the three-door model is assembled in Japan. Though sharing the same body-on-frame underpinnings, the Jimny 5-door has a lengthened wheelbase, giving it additional space for the second row. Despite that, the Jimny 5-door measures under four meters long, specifically at 3,985 mm. It’s also still narrow at 1,645 mm, which means you can only fit two adults in the rear seats.
Surely, the added length and thus, the increased weight would mean a more powerful engine, right? Well, it still uses the same K15B 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder as the three-door model, which produces 105 horsepower and 138 Nm of torque. This is mated to a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic, with power sent through an AllGrip four-wheel drive (4WD) system.
With these photos now surfacing on social media, it’s safe to say that Suzuki Philippines will start the year with a very important car launch through the Jimny 5-door.
