Toyota has once again given the Hilux its third facelift for this generation. The 2024 Toyota Hilux, at least in Australia as of the moment, has been given an aesthetic and equipment upgrade to keep it relevant amid newer competition in the midsize pickup segment.
The main highlight of this facelift for the 2024 Toyota Hilux is its new face. There’s a new octagonal grille that’s complemented by a new front bumper with redesigned foglight housings and a more sculpted face. The LED headlights (if equipped) as well as the rest of the body of the pickup remain unchanged, though the bed tailgate now has a damper for easier closing and softer opening. As for the interior, the design of the 2024 Toyota Hilux remains unchanged, but it does get new or enhanced features like dual-zone climate control, wireless charging, smart entry with push-button start, just to name a few.
Engines for the 2024 Toyota Hilux remain largely unchanged. The 2.8-liter turbocharged diesel engine with 48-volt mild-hybrid electrification was introduced last year, and it carries over into the 2024 Hilux. This electrified diesel engine produces 203 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque, which is the same as the non-electrified 2.8-liter turbo diesel. The 2.4-liter turbo diesel also remains unchanged, along with the choices of either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic.
Also new for the Hilux in 2024 is the addition of Multi-Terrain Select. Exclusive to variants with the 48-volt mild-hybrid system, Mutli-Terrain Select is an electronic feature for the four-wheel drive (4WD) system that changes the behavior of the vehicle depending on the terrain as opposed to being limited solely to the usual 2H, 4H, and 4L.
For now, Toyota Australia has only revealed the photos of the standard Hilux. It is still unknown if the facelift will also be applied to the Rogue (Conquest in the Philippines) and the GR Sport. Likewise unknown if this third facelift will be offered outside Australia since it’s only fairly recently that Toyota Motor Philippines updated the Hilux range for the 2024 model year. The current generation of the Toyota Hilux was first introduced in 2015, which means that the pickup in its current form is nearly a decade old.
